About Ann Harvey
Since being founded in London in 1979, Ann Harvey has been a major name in UK retail, creating fashionable clothes for women in sizes 16 to 32. The firm also offers a range of stylish accessories, offering shoes, handbags, scarves, hats and jewellery for women of all shapes and sizes. The brand was initially created as a subsidiary of the Alexon Group, a ladies' clothing retailer which is based in Luton, and owns six brands including Ann Harvey, Alexon, Dash, Eastex, Kaliko and Minuet Petite.
In April 2013, the Alexon Group fell victim to the financial crisis and went into administration. However, US-based private equity firm Sun European Partners purchased the fashion group, promising to save nearly 3000 jobs as well as popular brands including Ann Harvey.
Following the announcement of this takeover, the firm released a statement thanking customers for their support, and quickly sold out of its existing stock as a result of hefty discount offers.
Prior to its 2013 closure, Ann Harvey had a number of stores on the British high street, as well as concessions at department stores such as Debenhams, and retail behemoth Tesco. In addition to its own brands, the store stocks smart-casual clothing brand Anya Blue, and formal-wear brand Portrait.
The store has carved out a niche by offering reasonably priced fashion to the curvy and plus-size community. Bestselling items included bias-cut dresses, tunic-style dresses, block coloured tops and skirts, draped fabric detailing on skirts and dresses, and one-size-fits-all shawls and pashminas.
