Those looking for unique lighting around the house have a number of different options including bottle lamps which have become more and more popular in recent months. As the name indicates, a bottle lamp is simply a traditional lamp placed inside a glass bottle. They offer a genuine warming glow thatâs generally a bit more comforting than standard lighting and can sometimes be more energy efficient than normal bulbs.
Prices for bottle lamps vary, ranging from £15 up to around £50. This largely depends on whether or not the bottle lamp is homemade or manufactured and also whether or not itâs second hand or new. The type of bottle used can also impact the price, the more unique the bottle, the high the price.
The bottle used in the design is typically one previously used to contain alcohol, usually spirits. Which one is chosen is usually a matter of the buyer's preferred drink! Frequently used brands include Jack Daniels whisky, Smirnoff vodka, Hendricks gin and Disaronno. However, a number of other brands have also been used on occasion, especially with regards to homemade lamps.
The type of bottle used can have a big impact on the glow that the light creates. Clear or white bottles such as those used to package vodka and gin will present an almost white light, whereas Disaronno and Jack Daniels bottles, both of which are a darker brown, will in turn offer a warmer light. Fortunately this means that a bottle lamp can be flexible and can blend into any room with whiter lights suiting more contemporary designs and the darker ones presenting a more comforting, homely feel.
