About Come Dine with Me

One of the first television shows to focus on culinary skills and competition, "Come Dine With Me" launched as a daytime show in the UK in 2005. The show is a contest between five amateur chefs who do not know each other. The rules are simple: one contestant prepares and hosts a dinner party, and the other four contestants rate the host's performance. A fixed amount of money is provided for the party, and dinner must include at least a starter, a main dish, and dessert. By the end of the week, every contestant has hosted a party and been rated by the others. The winner takes home the cash and has made friends with the other contestants by that time. A sprinkling of comedy is provided by narrator Dave Lamb, known for his dry sense of humour. The show runs on Channel 4 and is produced by ITV Studios. "Come Dine With Me" is broadcast in other countries and has spawned similar programmemes in over 30 countries across the globe. The show currently maintains its daytime version but also features a prime-time variant with four competitors. The prime-time show is aired as a single hour-long episode, unlike the five half-hour daytime shows. Over 800 episodes later, the show is still going strong, with Series 30 kicking off in March 2013. "Come Dine With Me" organises special shows every now and then, featuring celebrities, as well as re-edited shows with new footage. The show won the TV Quick Award for Best Lifestyle Show and the TRIC Award for TV Daytime programmeme in 2011. You can find compilations of the best moments of "Come Dine With Me" on DVD.
