The British series of comics was initially known as âCommando War Stories in Picturesâ when it was launched by D.C Thomson & Co. Ltd in 1961. The themes used in the comics are primarily centred on events related to the first and second World Wars.
The comics confirm to national stereotypes with a lot of importance being given to soldiers who embody courage and sacrifice in difficult war zone conditions. Each issue is usually published with a complete story from start to finish, although certain prominent characters have been used in subsequent issues as well in recent times.
They are published in a standard format of 68 pages (7 à 5½ inches) sketched in black and white images, with only the cover being published in colour. Commando comics continue to be in print even today and is one of the more popular comic series in Britain.
