The low, sometimes mournful sound of a double bass finds its way into many genres of music. They are most at home in music related to jazz and blues, but find their way into unexpected places. Playing this stringed instrument doesn't require a bow, though plucking the strings produces a different set of sounds than a bow.

Both standard and electric forms of the double bass exist. With its distinct frenetic elegance, the instrument is capable of complementing a wide variety of musicians.
