Games consoles are computers specifically designed to allow games to be played, and that can mean they have better graphics than most normal PCs would have, and specific controllers such as joypads, in place of the usual keyboard and mouse. Modern games consoles go beyond this to become total home entertainment systems, capable of playing back DVDs and Blu-ray Discs, audio CDs and downloaded or streamed internet content.

With several major competing families of games consoles, the decision over which to buy can be a difficult one. However, different prices, different games and controller bundles, and simple word of mouth can all help to narrow down the field, until one of the modern-day consoles stands out from the crowd as the perfect choice.
