Precious and semi-precious gemstones are as important to the jeweller's art as precious metals, maybe even more so. Diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and a huge variety of semi-precious stones such as agate, jade, aquamarine, topaz and turquoise delight the eye.
Jewellers can string gemstones on necklaces or place them in jewellery settings made of silver or gold. Gemstones may be faceted or smoothly polished, depending on the stone and the intended use. Jewellery isn't complete without natural gemstones.
