About Neodymium Magnets

Neodymium magnets are the most common type of permanent rare earth magnet, and have a huge number of different applications. Neodymium magnets have been produced since 1982 and are the strongest type of magnet that is available commercially. Because of the strength of these magnets, they have replaced alternative magnet types in a variety of applications. Their strength means that smaller and lighter magnets can be used rather than other magnet types. They are used for a wide range of purposes, computer chips, loudspeakers, electric motors, headphones and magnetic guitar pick-ups are just some of the uses that neodymium magnets have. Since they were first developed, neodymium magnets have also become more commonly used in more practical consumer applications. They are often used by crafters to create handmade magnets with a high level of strength, and are also used in games and toys such as Scalextric and Warhammer. Other craft applications include the use of neodymium magnets in jewellery making. Some people who make jewellery, either professionally or as a hobby, will choose to use neodymium magnets in place of standard jewellery fasteners due to their strength and ease of use. They can also be used for magic tricks, to make clip on earrings and other body jewellery. They can even be used to search for lost earrings, pins and other metal items that have been dropped on the floor. Neodymium magnets have also been used in magnetic toys such as Buckyballs, which are a set of small spherical neodymium magnets that can be be put together in different ways to make different shapes.
