About Nylon Bar
Nylon, sold both in finished form and in nylon bars or other bulk shapes, is a very useful polymer. The material melts, can be extruded into strings and used for just about everything from shoelaces to musical instruments, has very high abrasion resistance, and is highly resilient and durable. Nylon comes in round or square bars, usually white or black, and cut to various lengths. Mostly the bars are used as an industrial material, either in its bar form or as a source of bulk nylon for reshaping. Nylon is considered a "thermoplastic" polymer, because it becomes pliable or moldable above its melting point and returns to a solid state when cooled. Unlike many plastics, you can melt nylon without damaging it-- this allows the bulk polymer to be melted and molded or softened and extruded into fibers. You can find nylon bars on eBay in diameters from 6 mm up to about 75 mm (thicker on occasion), cut to various lengths and in either white or black, as well as other forms of nylon.
