About Oscar Wilde

Take a look at a young picture of Oscar Wilde, and then find a young picture of Hugh Grant. Put them side by side if you can, then look at their features carefully. It has been said that the Irish writer and the British actor share more than a few similar features, but that is for you to decide. Just in case you are not sure which is which, Oscar Wilde is the writer and Hugh Grant is the actor. Oscar is probably best known for his book and subsequent film adaptations of 'The Importance of Being Earnest'. The title was first introduced as a play and though it was well received by the audience, it was shut down soon afterwards due to Oscar being prosecuted. After the play was published as a book, it was released on film on three different occasions in 1952, 1992, and 2002. Oscar Wilde was also famous for his many insightful quotes that are still being used today even if not directly attributed to him. Some of his most famous quotes include 'Always forgive your enemies – nothing annoys them so much' and ‘Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught'. And who could forget the infamous quote, 'True friends stab you in the front'. This is probably one of the most used Oscar Wilde quotes that are not always attributed to him. During and after Oscar's awful experiences in prison and public shame, he did not write as much as he would have liked, but when he did get a chance to put his pen to paper, some critics would say that his writing never suffered from his grief.
