About Plastic Lions
Made by Britains later in their career, plastic lions were part of their collection of zoo animals. In 1921, W. Britains Ltd. began producing a range of miniature farm and zoo animals for children. The first toys were made from lead based cast metal, and this continued till 1959, when most of the moulds were converted for use with plastic. Though Britain's farm animals are better known, pieces from their zoo line, such as the plastic toy lion and lioness with keeper, are quite fascinating as well. Enthusiasts have been collecting new and used cast metal miniatures for years now, and interest is growing in early plastic toys as well. Collectors looking for plastic lions made by Britain can find several examples on eBay. Sold by Top-rated Sellers, many of these items are available with free shipping.
