PlayStation is a series of video game consoles manufactured by Sony. The first consoles were released in Japan in 1994 before becoming a worldwide phenomenon.


The PlayStation series features both home consoles as well as gaming consoles. Each generation offered enhanced features for more interactive gaming. Some consoles offered backwards compatibility, allowing gamers to enjoy their old games on an upgraded console. Many popular titles available for other platforms are also available for PlayStation consoles, while several others were designed exclusively for use with PlaySation.


In addition to games, PlayStation consoles allow users to access other content, such as movies, music, and more, through the PlayStation Network. By setting up an Internet connection with the consoled, gamers can play online games with friends all over the world.
