About Rattan Garden Furniture

Rattan is the name given to types of palm in Australasia, Africa and Asia. There are over 600 types of palm that are referred to as rattan. Rattan palms are different to regular palms as they are slimmer, and look more like bamboo plants than traditional palm trees. Rattan is used in many different types of furniture due to its flexible yet strong nature. It takes colour well from stains and paints, just like wood, and is waterproof, which makes it ideal for garden furniture designs. Rattan gives a beautiful bohemian finish and is extremely strong whilst remaining flexible, allowing designers free reign when it comes to creating garden furniture with the material. Rattan is associated with quality and luxurious furnishings, which is why it has been used for decades in garden furniture. In recent years, 'staycations' have become a popular choice for many Britons, thus ditching the annual summer jaunt abroad in favour of a relaxing break in the UK. To allow themselves to relax in a holiday-like style, many opt to furnish their gardens as though they were an extra room, in order to utilise during their staycation. Therefore it is increasingly common to find storage trunks, storage baskets, water resistant lamps and outdoor vases, as well as outdoor sofas, armchairs and footstools, crafted from rattan. These pieces sit beautifully alongside the traditional rattan table and chairs for gardens. Rattan has allowed maximum usability of gardens across the nation, whilst giving the spaces a designer makeover and a touch of class.
