To add detailing on doors, round edges of wood, and make grooves, purchase a set of router bits. Carpenters put tongue and groove edges on boards so they join together tightly.

The shank of a bit connects to the router with a 1/2-inch shank, the preferred diameter for a smoother cut. Shop for chamber bits for decorative edging, rabbeting bits to cut notches, raised panel bits to create door panels, and straight router bits for making dado joints.
