Whether working on a carpentry project or remodelling a kitchen, a saw is a necessary tool for cutting all types of materials, as different saws cut items like wood, pipe and tile.

For instance, a stationary saw mounts to a table and is portable, making it easy to take to a jobsite, while a table saw cuts large pieces of lumber for construction. Circular and reciprocating saws are popular options. Choose from different types and sizes to find a saw for any job.

About Saws

The saw is one of the most versatile of tools that has made everything possible, from large scale construction to fine detailed carpentry. From the workshop to the factory, the shed to the forest, the saw has developed in many forms and with many uses. For the average household a standard hand saw is an essential tool for DIY. Hand saws are simple, typified by a flexible, fine toothed blade and sturdy handle. A good hand saw should last a lifetime if cared for and stored properly and is perfect for most household jobs. More detailed work can be undertaken with other types of hand saw such as the Tenon saw or hacksaw. For more heavy duty jobs something along the lines of a table or circular saw may be required. The table saw is mounted with a circular blade which can be moved along the cut line. Blade height and angle can be adjusted. They are heavy duty for cutting large timbers. Circular saws can be mounted or hand held and differ in that the timber is moved rather than the blade. Both table and circular saws can be adapted by changing blades allowing them to be used on a variety of materials. For finer work a mitre saw or jigsaw can be used. These saws can be adjusted to cut fine detail and angles and have been commonly used in woodworking and picture framing. Unlike their larger cousins these saws are designed for smaller materials and detail.
