Hornby is the most famous name in model trains and the company which most model railway enthusiasts tend to choose. The company dates back to 1901 when Meccano enthusiast Frank Hornby patented his Meccano based construction toy. A clockwork train was launched in 1920 and became hugely popular. Today, Hornby models such as southern coaches are in high demand and there are a number of different coach types that can be purchased. Southern coaches can vary in price but most are very reasonable which means itâs easy to add another coach to your collection whenever you have a little cash to spare!
There are several types of Hornby Southern Coaches available such as SR Southern Maunsell Brake Coaches, vintage Third Brake Coaches, first and second class buffet coaches or even a complete 1957 Southern Suburban Coach Pack. Southern Railway or S.R is a small railway company founded in the early 1920s. The route mileage of the S.R route was the best in London mainly due to the densely populated South London area in which it operated. Southern Coaches were mainly used to transport passengers from the South of the city around Greater London and some of the most popular trains available for todayâs model steam railways include the splendid Terrier Locomotive and the Battle of Britain Class Locomotive.
