For many people, it may come as a shock to learn that Teddy Bears only date back to 1902. Named for US President Teddy Roosevelt, the bear was invented simultaneously in the U.S. and Germany.


Originally fitted with jointed limbs, later models simplified the design with a simple stuffed body. While the original US manufacturer has dropped away, Germany's Steiff brand is still going strong. Go out in the woods today and enjoy the picnic.
