UGG is an Australian brand owned by Deckers Outdoor Corporation. The footwear company rose to prominence in the early part of the 21st century with a line of thermal utility shoes, known colloquially in Australia and New Zealand as ugg boots
Ugg boots were originally popular during the '60s surf scene in Australia but later developed international popularity. The growing success of the boots, led manufacturers UGG to develop an international trading branch of the company. Disparate manufacturers also started producing ugg boots, independent of the Deckers Outdoor Corporation UGG brand. Other companies manufacturing ugg boots include Empire Ugg Boots, Blue Mountains Ugg Boots and Bearpaw.
UGG states that Grade-A sheepskin is used in production of its boots. This is said to be the highest quality of sheepskin giving the footwear natural insulative properties. The sheepskin is sourced from animals that already have been slaughtered for human consumption
UGG has diversified somewhat since the launch of its ugg boot to incorporate a range of accessories into the brand. These supplementary items are designed along a similar theme to the companyâs footwear, for instance, an ugg purse features a sheepskin outer with a woolen lining. The range of accessories also includes bags, clothing, hats and gloves.
