About Wet Room Kit Linear
A wet room is a room set up to accommodate a shower without a traditional shower base and enclosure, and in this respect has more in common stylistically with the public showers often available at gyms or swimming baths. The drain is set direct into the floor. A wet room kit will also allow you to install a shower enclosure without the usual base, creating a more sleek, minimal look for your bathroom.
You need a wet room kit to create a waterproof base and drainage point for your shower. It typically consists of a flat 'tray' - which is intended to be seamlessly tiled over in style with the floor and walls of the room - plus the drain, connector and usually tape and coatings necessary to the installation and finishing process.
The only part which will be seen is the drain, so make sure this is of a quality and style to suit your decor. The tray prevents your shower water from seeping into, or through, the floor rather than going down the drain. A paint-on tanking membrane then makes the entire floor seamlessly waterproof underneath the tiles.
Wet room drains come in two main styles - square or linear. The floor needs to be made to slope toward this drain hole. A linear drain is a long rectangular grate, with a similarly shaped trap underneath which then drains into a sink hole in the middle. The linear solution is simpler, as it requires a slope in only one direction, and is a particularly wise choice if you're intending to use large format tiles. If you choose a linear drain, it's vital to make sure you buy the corresponding tray, so a kit is often a good idea.
