About Zenith El Primero
Zenith is a Swiss watch manufacturer that was founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot. The company?s first products were pocket watches. The prestigious El Primero range was launched in 1969 and had the first ever automated chronograph movement, which made it one of the most precise watch ranges available. The El Primero high frequency movement has been enhanced over time; today it is the only watch capable of measuring time to a tenth of a second, which is made possible by its balance, which oscillates at 36,000 vibrations per hour. There was a brief cessation in production of the El Primero from 1975 until 1985, when the company decided to limit watch production to quartz models. In 2003 the El Primero range was given an open dial so that the oscillations could be viewed.
Zenith El Primero watches are available for men and women, providing a range of different sizes and styles and they are all are premium, luxurious, collectable timepieces. They are available in contemporary, retro or classic styles. They generally have a circular face, although some models have a square shaped face and they can feature Roman, or Arabic numerals. The watch straps can be made of alligator, leather, rubber, or stainless steel. The watch cases are often made of precious metals, such as 18 ct gold, ceramicized aluminium, or even rose gold set with diamonds. El Primero watches have a power reserve indicator and have approximately 50 hours of reserve power.
In 2012 a Zenith El Primero watch was worn by Felix Baumgartner when he broke the world free-fall record from the edge of space, broke the sound barrier and reached a speed of 1,342 km an hour. The watch was still working perfectly on landing.
