History of Coco ChanelCoco Chanel: Elegance and Style Personified
From rags to refinement, Coco Chanel never goes out of fashion
Marriage of sophistication and comfort was the intent when Coco Chanel, otherwise known as Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, began her career as a fashion designer. With her singing career and corsets in the past, Coco opened her first millinery in 1910. She hit her stride in the 1920s when she produced the Chanel suit, the little black dress, and her first perfume - Chanel No. 5. Although Karl Lagerfeld has been the chief designer for the Chanel design house since 1982, the eponymous Coco has left such a mark as to be the subject of a musical and several films since her death in 1971.
