AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 2 GHz (AXDA2400DKV3C) OEM / Unboxed Processor for £3,what a bargain. viva la eBay!... A brilliant Processor for upgrading older socket a motherboards. Will only show speed not type because its OEM. Don't forget to change bios to 133 from 100 or it will show as 1800+, 1.5 GHz instead of Athlon XP 2400+, 2 GHz.

Worthwhile upgrade for video transcoding
Created: 28/12/08
I bought this to replace an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz and this was the fastest, easy to obtain, processor that the motherboard (GA-7VTX 266Mb FSB) will support. It went straight in and runs fine. It makes a real difference for processor hungry tasks such as video transcoding (a file that took 115 minutes to transcode with the Athlon 1.4 now takes 56 mins), but don't expect to notice huge improvements for general Windows tasks as other factors will limit performance, such as I/O.
An added bonus is that the XP versions of the Athlon support the SSE instruction set, which is required by some software such as games.

AMD Athlon XP 2400+,
Created: 27/02/08
This is a good, dependable CPU running at 2GHZ.and 266 FSB. This appears quite slow compared to the later processors and especially so compared to the multi core processors.
However there are many motherboards for AMD processors of 2003/4 vintage which are still in regular use,and many of these can only support up to 266 FSB, and the ATHLON XP 2400 is the fastest option generally available for them.
The ATHLON 2400XP is more than capable of running Windows XP, and for general office and internet applications.
However when running Vista Ultimate, or undertaking power hungry tasks such as video editing, or running the latest games, then a significant drop in performance is to be expected.

The AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 2 GHz ( AXDA2400DKV3C ) 462 is an easy chip to upgrade to from a 1700+. The price i paid on ebay was very fair.

Can't afford a 2600+ ??

I needed to upgrade my CPU from an Athlon XP 1800+. The fastest CPU my motherboard could take was an Athlon XP 2600+.
Because these are the fastest CPUs for this generation of motherboard they are very sought after and consequently they command a high price.
The next fastest CPU in the line is the Athlon XP 2400+. I bought one of these for about 25% of the cost of the faster 2600+, and it works really well. It has speeded up my general computing tasks, and handles things like Youtube videos much more easily.
If you don't want to spend the money on the 2600+ I would really recommend going for the 2400+.
