Acer Iconia Tab A200 16GB, Wi-Fi, 10.1in - Titanium

The market for 10" tablets is increasing all the time, there are now over 15 to choose from. I had spent many weeks researching before choosing the Acer A500, I had a shortlist of 4 ; the Acer A500, Asus Transformer, Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Never once was the Apple ipad considered, sorry but I refuse to buy anything Apple.
All these tablets can be purchased new, priced within £50, cheapest to dearest, by doing a little web surfing, so price is not an issue.
Performance is very similar, as the all use the same processor and have 1Gb of RAM. battery life within 2 hours.
All are available with either 16 or 32 GB of internal memory, this is where the Samsung got the chop, no expandable memory, so what you buy is all you get, but I must admit, it is the best looking and the lightest.
So down to the last 3, the Asus has the best screen, but what made me buy the Acer and most of the reviews do not tell you, is that the Acer has a full size USB 2.0 port, and into this you expand your memory capacity to whatever hard drive you own, I have a 1 Tb portable hard drive, no mains lead required, so I have the ability to store all my music, books, magazines and films, when I go away.
The only thing I dislike about the product is I can't find a battery extender, so after 9 hours it goes black, until I can find somewhere to recharge it. Also the power cable is way to short, so you are about 1 metre away from the socket.

I bought this tablet to supplement a desktop and laptop system and due to weight and size restrictions am now unable to take my laptop and camera equipment abroard as hand luggage so needed a replacement for this use. As soon as I tried the I-Pad I wanted one but this machine would not allow me to transfer images from a memory card to an external hard drive so it was useless for my requirements. I found this tablet and it is superb, it is possibly not quite as slick as the I-Pad but overall it beats it 100%+++ .I needed to download K9 application to access my e-mails as the installed app would not accept my details and MX Player is also recommended as another download for movies ( if you use torrents for movies some will play merely by transferring direct form the torrent download but others will need to be converted to TS Video or the audio channel will not transfer - Nothing to do with the tablet! ) and to enhance the audio on music and movies when using headphones buy a a FiiO E6 mini amp from Amazon and be amazed at the response. A good quality cover also recommended to protect the unit but not absolutely necessary.Battery lasts approx 7 Hrs before re-charge necessary.
I now use this more than my laptop which really is a shame as my Dell Inspiron 9400 is also a super tool.

Would I buy again ? :- Definately - This is now a very good buy as I believe it has been replaced with the 510 - not yet tried the sandwich version of android as the supplied software does what I personally need but will have to do it soon to keep up with technology !!!

I research entire market before I decide to buy Acer Iconia Tab and i found that this tablet is pretty awesome! Value for money is just unbelievably good. For the same price you cannot get anything like this one. Android 3.0 with few apps and games already installed run smoothly and do not locks up. I can definitely recommend this tablet.

The main snags with this device are the scratchable screen surface. (If you get one of these buy an oleophobic screen protector pronto - it picks up fingerprints horribly easily and its easy to scratch it even with soft optical cleaning cloths.) Its also a bit heavy to hold in your hands and very slippery. Means getting a case is a must. The screen is nice, its fairly quick and does exactly what you would expect from a tablet. I'd say the full price however (Currently 400 quid or so) is obscenely high for what it is. At half that its a reasonable deal but I would not pay more than 250 for one of these. Also this is no replacement for a home pc or laptop.

Update: I gave mine to my parents who have armored the poor thing in cling film (!) and added a home-built amplifier and external 2.5" harddrive to hold all their media. They then have since dragged it all over europe twice on camping holidays on a motorbike. The original leather case may now be duct taped together and its a bit more weathered. It also gets trickle charged brutally (poor thing) from a 12V bike battery using my dad's home built converter.... However as their primary entertainment (music, movies, ebooks) and GPS system - Its lived. As a result I feel I need to boost its rating to 4/5 for this units general toughness.

The Iconia has a better screen, has mini USB, normal size USB, a micro SD card slot so can be upgraded 32+64=96gb for all those Apps of which there are thousands (Android) in short it does everything an iPad does but better!
