My mum saw mine and wanted one, but I had to hunt round for this item as I understand the Kindle keyboard without 3G has now been discontinued. I knew my mum would not get on with the touch screen funcionality of the newer models. Feedback I've had is that, as she's not a big computer fan, it's taking a little time for her to get to grips with the all the Kindle's functionality, but she loves the fact that she can have one device holding loads of books, and she can download a new book whenever she wants from the comfort of her own home, without having to go to the shops! Also, she's set the screen to large text so she can place the device on her knee without having to hold it. My dad's bought her a proper Amazon leather cover for it, so it opens like a book, which she likes. Overall, a successful purchase.

Several of my friends gave glowing reports of the Amazon Kindle.
They know I am an avid reader.....but being a traditionalist, I resisted their efforts to convert me to the Kindle way of reading.
I told them that I liked the feel of a book in my hand.
I am a bedtime reader, and have recently found my arm goes to sleep half an hour before the rest of me. This is especially true with the more weighty novels.......'this does not happen with a Kindle', my friends assured me.....'it is light' they said...'can be read in bright sunlight' they said......'you can alter the script size' they said.......'you can carry more books that you'll read in a year' they said.
OK, OK, Ok........I will try one of these Kindle things....but if I don't like it it will go right back on E-Bay.
So I took the plunge. Splashed the cash. Treated myself.
It is everything my friends told me. It goes everywhere with me.
It is light, takes up little space in my handbag..or even my pocket.......the battery life is superb.
I am hooked. This does not mean I have given up on books.
I am sure I will still read those now and again.
I haven't found anything about the Kindle that I don't like.
I was going to get a Tablet to do my e-reading on, but their short battery life and the fact that they become less readable in strong light, oh yes, and their price put me off.
the Kindle is the best present I have ever bought myself, I think we are going to be friends forever.

Greatest invention since moveable type printing press

I bought this with a degree of scepticism, but no longer. It is absolutely brilliant. Lightweight and comfortable to use - much more than any paperback - especially the "bricks". I've just read in great comfort "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and dipping into the complete set of Dickens. (A steal, by the way, at 99p!) I am very impressed indeed and my reading has increased in quantity as a result.
In use it is of huge value to be able to adjust the size of the font: I can read with or without glasses. The screen is clear and very comfortable to read from in normal lighting, and the grey background is wonderful in full sun. It would be wonderful if it could be backlit for use in the dark, but a goose-neck led lamp solves this snag and has an element of reading under the bed-clothes with a torch!

Kindle 3 3G WiFi
Created: 07/03/11
This is a joy to own. It is particularly suited to people who like to travel and take with them a variety of books or, if really dedicated, work documents. The cover is a little pricy if heading for the Amazon one with the light however it's worth protecting. The ink technology does not require power to hold the text once displayed and is fantastic as it gives the device an incredibly long stint between charge periods. It kicks the IPad in to touch in this regard as well as not requiring a sim card to use GPRS/WiFi. Try reading an IPad in direct sunlight- you cant but you read a Kindle.

Didn't think I would like it - I'm converted

I didn't think I would like the Amazon Kindle because I love books. I love holding them, turning the page and the smell of them. I thought the KIndle would be like reading from a laptop - but it's not. I love the look of the text on screen, it's like a real book. The convenience of downloading any book any where at any time is fantastic, and the ability to share your library with family and friends is great. Storing your book library online, safely and securely is another bonus - not having to box everything up everytime we move. There's a lot of really fabulous attributes with this gadget, and although I can't see myself throwing away my 'real' books just yet, a proper copy of my favourites will always be on a shelf, I think I have converted, its nice looking, simple to use, and really handy. I think everbody will have one soon.
