Review for: Amazon Kindle Keyboard 4GB, Wi-Fi + 3G (Unlocked), 6in - Graphite
Amazon Kindle Keyboard 4GB Wi-Fi 3G... Why I bought it: My daughter, an avid reader, has one & loves it. When I was grumbling to her that my laptop is too big! To use in my camper-van she suggested I give 3G on the Kindle a try. I didn't particularly want one for reading as I love books. What I like about it: Having handled it and read a couple of books on it, I have changed my mind about using it for reading. Its light, easy to use just about anywhere, I never loose my place if I have to put it down quickly. The glare that I get when reading on my husband's iPad is absent so it's not as tiring. I like that I can alter the page lay out, font and text size to suit me; really makes the read experience comfortable. The battery life seems to last for ever; I've only charged it up once so far and there's lots of life in it yet. The keyboard is a dodle to use, even with my aged hands and failing eyesight! It's a bit cumbersome, though, if you need to insert a mix of numbers and letters, i.e. when using dates or passwords. The 3G facility makes it quick and easy to down load books wherever I may be, and its free! Books can be downloaded from the computer from other sources, but so I haven't done that. It was easy to transfer PDF files using the USB cable. I am going to investigate Calibre ebook management, which may make sharing books more flexible http://calibre-ebook.com . What I dislike about it: Judging by the number of broken Kindles on Ebay I am guessing that they are not as robust as they look. A protective cover of some description is essential. I tried to buy one locally, but was told that they are not being made any more. Luckily they are still available on line Amazon had a few left and, of course, there are usually some on Ebay. I was lucky enough to buy 2 leather ones [just in case!] on Ebay. I sometimes accidentally touch the “Forward” button which is annoying, but I am a fidget! The 3G facility for browsing the internet, emails, etc is not as great as I hoped. It does work after a fashion, but is not as good as a computer or a phone [maps, for instance, are not in colour]. There's very little I dislike about the Kindle. Would I buy it again?: I hope I wont need to change for a long while, but when the time comes I probably would. I would certainly recommend one to anyone considering an e-reader at the present time.

Review for: Amazon Kindle Keyboard 4GB, Wi-Fi + 3G (Unlocked), 6in - Graphite
Very happy with this but mainly because I picked it up 'as new' for £100 which is only about a tenner more than the cheap version. I got it because I wanted the keyboard for the extra interaction (especially for searching guidebooks) but mostly for the free 3G as am going abroad for a month. £159 full price I think is too much for what you get, which is essentially just an e-reader with very limited additional functionality. Even the 3G you could get around unless you were absolutely desperate to buy on the go and can't wait 'til you get a wireless connection or, as with me, going abroad for a chunk of time and wanting to use it for very limited web-browsing / social network updating.

The usability / battery life / far better screen (for reading) than the iPad etc. is all as expected. Weight is fine. Size is just a little big to accommodate the keyboard.

Ideally I'd have gone for the kindle touch if it was available in the UK or I could be bothered to have it shipped and I may well upgrade if it ever does become available over here as the touch is lighter and smaller.

Overall though I'm happy it'll do the job I want of slimming down the dozen or so books I wanted to take away into one small device.

Review for: Amazon Kindle Keyboard 4GB, Wi-Fi + 3G (Unlocked), 6in - Graphite
This Kindle Keyboard 3G was bought for my husband and he uses it every day. The most exciting feature for him was 3G connectivity which means he can get a book 'right there and then' when he wishes so and whenever he is in the world.
The Kindle is lightweight, includes a dictionary (just highlight the word), and takes just a couple of days to get used to the side buttons and the menu. Some people prefer this one to Kindle Touch as you are not leaving fingerprints or smudges on the screen, and no problem if your hand gets sweaty - you can still turn the page on the beach.
All in all, an excellent buy (about £80-90 on ebay).

Review for: Amazon Kindle Keyboard 4GB, Wi-Fi + 3G (Unlocked), 6in - Graphite
This is my second Kindle Keyboard 3G, bought at a very good price from an eBay auction. In fact, it was as cheap as a replacement screen . . . I'd put my elbow through the previous one. (Elbow? Don't ask). It also had two other big advantages over the previous one: a hard cover, and operating system 3.3.
I'm a motorhomer, and the free 3G is great for checking emails and getting weather forecasts before I get out of bed in the morning, or any other internet browsing. It has always worked in the UK, France, Spain and Portugal. But last winter I had a message from Amazon that they had put a 500Mb cap on browser usage, except for downloading books and consulting Wikipedia. Since I'd used the browser much more than this previously, I think the limit comes when the software is "upgraded" to version 3.4. I've had this one a month, and given the 3G a serious amount to do, but haven't had my usage blocked. I'm not going to use this Kindle on wifi at all, since Amazon can apparently update the software by wifi whether you ask for it or not. If 3G browsing is important to you, don't let your Kindle know your wifi password, and don't "Sync & Check for Items"!
Sorry if this sounds a bit negative, but it really is a brilliant piece of kit for reading or web browsing: it's just a pity that the "free unlimited worldwide web browsing" that was promised in the original sales promotion is being removed by stealth.

Review for: Amazon Kindle Keyboard 4GB, Wi-Fi + 3G (Unlocked), 6in - Graphite
Bought this on behalf of an aged friend (81) whose hands are not so nimble when it comes to screen gestures. The only place you can by them now is through ebay where Argos is recycling returns. It was in mint condition, and compared to my own was as new. She wanted a Kindle after being loaned one, which she now uses during her dialysis sessions (3 times/week). She found it light enough to hold one handed and still advance to the next page. The only serious draw back was in the operation with book purchases. Lacking any IT skills she was unable to consider logging on to Kindle, email addresses etc. The solution was to register in my name and share my archive or purchase (an easy operation) and then settle up with me when I received notification of a purchase. Also liked the variable size text.
