I bought this product to replace my original +hd box after the male rf pin broke off and it was going to cost £60 callout, which exclude's repair.I purchased this for £63:99.No brainer.
To my surprise this 1 is smaller both width and depth size which I find make's it easier to fit into my recessed fireplace with my other gadgets.I can't compare it to other model's only the 1 I replaced it with, the only difference is it's compact size.

Purchased this product for the larger hard drive, previous machine Samsung HD Box with 160Gb and was fed up with running out of hard drive space.
This Box is much smaller and looks much neater, seems to be smoother to operate than the Samsung, was dubious about the Amstrad brand but cannot find any fault with it at all.
Highly reccommended - this is the best Sky Box (previous boxes Pace, Samsung) we have ever had!

i already had freesat for bbchd and itvhd and i wanted ch4hd and ch5hd so i purchased the amstrad drx890 having read reveiws about the product. did a self install did update when setup put sky freesat card in and all seemed fine except no 4hd or 5hd phoned sky twice and channels were updated from their end, all free to view channels worked well. i only use the sky box when i want to watch 4hd 5hd so i keep the box 24/7 on stand by every time i put the receiver on i get on screen no signal and channel guide saying no information available every time i have to disconnect satallite cables and turn off the receiver and then reconnect.
then everything works very well the picture is very good in hd, judging by the problems ive had i can only grade the receiver as average my freesat box always works fine off the same dish feed a 4 socket lnb and never gives me any trouble i cant wait for the switch over in my area 2012. i can neither recommend or not recommend the amstrad drx890

I have a subscription with Sky for Sky+ and movie channels - not bothered about paying extra subscription to go over to Sky HD so bought this so I could watch freeview HD channels and still watch the Sky stuff I subscribe to. I also wanted the extra memory for recording programmes - so paid £99 on eBay with "buy now option" for what was a described as a "new" box - but when it arrived the Sky packaging was clearly at least 2nd or 3rd hand. Sat Receiver itself wasn't particularly marked, few hair line marks, but nothing obvious. The remote controller on the other hand was well "used" - covered in scratches and unhygenic "dirt" that needed a bit of a wash.

Box works fine with my Sky+ card and freeview HD channels work fine - but unfortunately all the sky movie channels that I pay for with Sky+ subscription are blocked on Sky HD+ sat receiver because I don't have the correct card - with Shy HD+ the movie channels are either HD or nothing. So turns out to be £100 wasted over Xmas. We are back to our old Sky+ box.
