Apple iPad 3rd Generation 32GB, Wi-Fi, 9.7in - Black

This review is mainly about the advantages of Ipad 3 over the Ipad 2. See my review for Ipad2 if you want to know about pros and cons of the Ipad over others.
Well, as you know , it is the screen resolution. I thought buying it maybe useless as there is no use of such high resolution, as we dont use such high res videos. I was wrong. The screen is worth the money if you are using the Ipad to browse the net or read magazines or read pdf notes or see photos. Reading books on the Ipad3 is much easier and the app Goodreader works with no hiccups. Compare the screens of the 2 Ipads side by side for the above, and you will find using the Ipad 2 screen difficult and irritating.

The processor is fast enough to play HD videos like mkv without any hitches ( with app avplayer hd), which was an issue for me with Ipad2. Surprisingly, the HD video quality are better on the Ipad3, than watching them on the Ipad 2 or HD tv( which I didnt expect, or is a subjective error of judgment on my side)

The increased weight and thickness is not noticeable, but with HD videos playing well, 64GB seems a bit less storage, and its not expandable (maybe because Apple does not make microSDs). Battery life is as good as before, and it will last longer if you reduce the screen brightness( in long flights with dark cabins).

The voice recognition for dictation is moderately accurate, more if you are speaking directly over the microphone, than from the side. Apple will add Siri in the upcoming update of IOS 6 soon. I thought it was already in the Ipad3 when I bought it.

I did not notice much difference with the games, compared to the Ipad2.

At the end of the day, I'm happy with the screen clarity, which imposes less eye strain for my reading on the IPad3. Its like electronic paper( well at least till a higher res IPad come out.

Aged 59 i am no techno geek but having a mac apple lap top for over 5 years it was going to cost me a fair bit to upgrade the mac pro. I read a lot on here re the new i pad and lion os x operating system.both good and bad. In the end decided to take the plunge. Mac shop Kingston really good, bought the 16 Gb then 2 days later,after realising i was going to use it in place of my lap top far more,I exchanged it for the 64 GB .Its excellent, cant rate it enough easy to follow commands instructions speech dictation auto spell correct ETC ETC the list goes on,camera excellent quality easy to include pics straight into emails I COULD GO ON well Done apple 5 Gold stars I have now also downloaded the APP for lion and up graded my Imac 21 in, so both working in harmony with one another using the Icloud facility.

I am a technophobe so this is not a technical review. I cannot compare it to previous ipads as I've never owned one before. I was persuaded that it would be easier to use than my laptop (I am disabled and sometimes find the laptop a bit heavy in bed).

I would have like an instruction book instead of online. I do not use most of the features. I could not get my contacts list into the email programme (but I did manage to set up the email facility) so I rarely use it . I could not find out how to get my contacts list from PC to pad anywhere in the instructions.

I have mainly downloaded games apps plus a very few tunes to play instead of games background sounds.

For me, it was rather a waste of money. I cannot add any games or programmes I already own. Few of the games have strategy guides, so I am constantly going back and forth to the downloaded ones on Safari. Tedious +++. I didn't realise I could not use CDs or USB links

Is there a virus protection on the pad??

I would not recommend it to other OAPs who do not have an iPhone or Ipod (I have neither)unless they have plenty of money to pay for downoads.
To me it is rather a money drain.

It works beautifully and technically I have not had problems once I found out how things worked (except for contacts list!) - but I have never looked at most of the apps!! It gets left unused most of the time -not my best buy!

The Ipad is an excellent little gadget,
I find it very useful when having little time but wanting to check things like my email or facebook,
it loads in seconds unlike the desktop PC.
It also save me money as I now get my newspaper delivered to my Ipad, this saves me in the region of £50 per month.
I would recommend buying an Ipad anytime, as you can see from my experience just having my paper delivered to it has helped me recoup the cost in just a few months,and now ime saving money every day.
