Apple iPad 3rd Generation 64GB, Wi-Fi + Cellular (3), 9.7in - White

I bought this as I wanted something more portable than a laptop but don't like using a phone to surf the net etc. I never thought that I would buy one of these as they were too expensive, but, as I bought this when it was only a couple of weeks old, I didn't pay a huge amount for it. I do like it's portability and it's generally really easy to use. However, I don't like the way that it interfaces with a Windows PC but there are ways around all of that so for me not too much of an issue. I can't really compare this to other products as I went straight for this as my son had one (a slightly earlier model) and it gave me a good idea how I would use it. So all in all Apple win on this one, great piece of kit that does exactly what I need it too and it is fairly future proof as well. If that wasn't enough, the battery life is easily 10 hours - I tested it @ 75% and havinf ran for 3 hours on day 1, then 6 hours on day 2 was only down to 20% and then put it on charge and it didn't take too long to get to 100%.

I looked at a few tablets before deciding on the ipad. There is no doubt that this was the start of the tablet revolution and is really a bigger ipod touch. Others are cheaper but have less memory or a smaller screen. I bought 64gb as I have thousands of picture, I have taken music off as I use my ipod touch for music the ipad for pictures, book and finally magazines. Reading magazines is one of my reasons as with the ipad I can enlarge the image as my eyes are not what they used to be. The retina display was another reason; the image quality is superb. For me the ipad mini is half way between the ipad and the ipod touch so why have one?

I am not an expert on apps and have only a few. The map app is not a patch on google maps.

I have a windows 8 PC and frankly accessing the internet is simpler quicker with the ipad than Windows 8 which for some reason has 2 versions of internet explorer one of which does not work from the opening screen.

Sound is very good. Charging is slow.

It is heavier than I thought on arrival but I have become used to it.

Have seen so many iphones and ipad with broken screens I advise that a cover is bought immediately.

I had a HTC windows 8 phone and found it so unser friendlyi ended up not using it at all, along with phone signal behinding shocking where i live! so wanting something better for apps and music i decided for an ipad!! Though alittle pricey i was worried i wouldnt get on with the touch screen as didnt with HTC, but apart from the price its easy to use,and not to heavy!! Of course you can't make a phone call so tospeak but you can skype and use over ahundred different apps for social networking. On the down side to no phone it doesnt have great range for wifi but then againthey could just be down to where i work. One Plus and emense camera andplenty of photo storage space being 64gb!! plenty of assesoires out there too and thousands of apps but sorting through them can be mernotinus!! I can't compare unfortunatly to other ipads as ihaven't had one before!! It does kick the behind of the windows phone though even so much so that i'm waiting for my iphone 4 to arrive (will also review) So overall a worthwhile perchase.

So far I am struggling to see a big difference between the iPad 2 and 3 other than the 3 is noticeably heavier. The retina screen is not knocking me dead but the voice recognition is neat. Not explored the front camera quality improvements yet but will I realistically use by iPad to take snaps or a video anyway? Big disappointment forward facing camera not HD on this "HD iPad" as I intend to use FaceTime a fair bit so wanted the best experience possible - looks like I'll have use my MacBook Air instead, the iPad will have to be a present for my old man to bring him into the 21st century.

I previously had a 'Viewsonic' android tablet and the Ipad has proved to be just technologically light years ahead, in terms of convenience and userbility. Its battery life is very good and Ipad works virtually straight away from 'sleep' mode and connects to the internet immediately. It worked 'straight out of the box' and continues to give excellent performance all-round. I am pleased I made the change, however, the only gripe I have is that I find Itunes not too willing to accept or download music or data from sources other than from 'Itunes' origin. And some video format won't run as Apple software is not compatible with 'competitor's' players.
