| No, I wouldn't recommend this product.

I'll spare the reader a review of all the usual apps, functionality etc. I am going to focus on the user-experience from a long-term point of view.
I have used an iPhone (3GS, 16GB, black, O2) for 18months. It has generally been a pleasure to use. It is a technical marvel. A truly revolutionary product in combination with the app store on iTunes.
In the last four months I have also been running, as an experiment, an iPad (which, like the iPhone, is primarily a business tool for me). NOTE: I was fairly sceptical of the iPad when I bought it (cheaply).
After using the much-larger iPad, which is much more portable and useful than I expected it to be, the iPhone feels cumbersome and fiddly.
The iPad has excellent battery life. The iPhone has lamentable battery life (a not uncommon problem with all 'smartphones') such that I have to be extremely careful in using it when out-and-about. I don't have the inclination to be so careful any more.....it is a real drag on the experience of using an iPhone.
I have therefore been doing as much on the iPad as possible, and avoiding the iPhone (apart from its use as a phone, of course).
My partner recently destroyed her own iPhone (accidentally), so I have gladly given her mine and bought a cheap Nokia 2720 as a replacement (a very simple, light phone with cheap accessories and reliable battery life...unlike the iPhone). I don't miss the iPhone-specific stuff, e.g. the camera (which I did not use much) and portable satnav (I'll stick with my Garmin because it is waterproof and has reliable battery life...note that the iPad also makes a good satnav device, albeit large). The Nokia 2720 also syncs easily and quickly with my Apple MacBook Pro.
So, for me and I suspect many others, the future will be a good-sized tablet device (like the iPad) for general online work, and a cheap phone for, err..., making phone calls.
