Fixing hard drive and sad face on Ipod 5g with Video
Created: 16/03/10
I bought a faulty Ipod 5g with Video on eBay as I didn't want to buy one from new. As I have a computing background, I was comfortable with opening the back and checking for faults ie. loose wire (due to dropping the device), listening for the clicking sound of the hard drive (which is an indication of the drive going bad) and simply rebooting and changing the battery (one of the reasons for a sad face). Its easy to do once you get the relevant tools available quite cheaply on eBay. With my faulty 5th generation Ipod, I realized that it had a problem holding a charge despite the indicator showing a fully charged battery. This is alright for me as I needed it not for carrying around but to sit in the cradle of a Griffin System which is connected to my flip tv in the kitchen. The Griffin System is always on so I am able to listen to music, podcasts, and watch music videos. The forums are particular useful in providing information on how to replace a hard drive or battery in an Ipod 5th generation with video that is out of warranty. I am enjoying my Ipod very much much.

Ipod 5th Generation (80 GB)

Having put off getting into the digital age and sticking to trusty CD's.I decided to treat myself to an Ipod. All I can say why did I wait? After installing Itunes on my pc which did seem to take forever to install!
I now find myself ripping all my favourite albums and compiling different playlists (it gets addictive).
There are a multitude of accessories available and for me the idea of being able to connect it through my stereo and just let it play random tunes for the evening for instance when entertaining,or even compiling special playlists is great.
I can't compare it to other mp3 players but my decision for getting an ipod was the fact that they are very popular and also the support in terms of accessories and spares seemed hard to beat.
The only downside is that whilst it is a sexy little beast the unit is prone to picking up scratches so it is worth considering a case.

Apple 80gb Ipod Video 5th Generation

I have been buying and selling ipods for some time now and these have to be the best produced by far.
Way better than the 6th/7th generations as these have a unique chip that enables you to view your film content through your tv.Although you can do with the new ones a different cable is required.
These also have a better sound chip also giving no volume cap producing a better sound quality by far. These also have a very slightly larger screen giving widescreen playback viewing at it,s best.Current still fetching good money but unavailable in the shops now.Dont let this put you off as these are so easy to repair and can be pened easily by the user to self fix,the latter ones are not friendly repairable as they damage easily when opening. From me go for a 5th generation, some good quality ones (refurbs) still around.Hope this helps, thanks.

Apple iPod 5th Gen 80GB

Updated from a 30GB model (now full), this does everything you want. Slightly bigger, but holds a lot more. The sound is a bit flat (as it is on all digital music players) but wouldn't be without it!

| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.Created: 09/03/12
The product is as described, heavuly scratched, marked and dented in the corners. I don't mind this, an Ipod is all about the insides rather than the outside. I am happy with the seller for declaring this properly though.
Apprently the insides have had the go over and been re done. I don't doubt this it true but I have no way of prooving it so I'll just assume it's true.
Holds loads of songs, is a good piece of kit.
2 ways in which I am not very happy. For £70 I would've expected better:
-The buttons catch now and then. It is only for about 5 to 7 seconds that they don't respond but ti worries me as that fault could get worse.
-I've tried the ipod now with my head phones, ear phones and some of my friend's sets too and the sound is still a little tin like. Saddening as I paid so much for it because I am a huge music fan and want good quality output.
Little worried.
