If you want music on the move then an iPod is a must.

These are the market leaders in mp3 music players though they have now been overtaken by the newer generation of Touch iPods and iPhones. These are still well worth getting for the massive memory. To give you an idea, I've spent ages putting in 295 CDs and that has taken a little over 30Gb, so with 160 to play with it's enough to take quite a large collection of music.
The iPod classic has the famous click wheel button controls on the front which make navigation easy.
For me the Ipod is let down by a couple of things which are to do with software. iTunes scans CDs very quickly but can split albums into different albums if there are different artists on a CD. It isn't very good at importing files you may already have on your computer. I have a number that I have for my Sony phone, but it doesn't seem to recognise them properly and categorises them as Unknow Artist. In the end I just scanned in the CDs again.
Because it doesn't work like a memory stick or hardrive, you can't add videos etc as I could with my cheapo Mp4 player. I tried to import some old Quicktime videos from my camera and it doesn't recognise them.
It worked with photos but tries to import a whole folder, so it's best to make a dedicated ipod photos folder. That can be a bit of pain as you have to copy things and do a bit of extra faffing about to get the pics you want.
Another grip is the Equaliser settings don't do a great deal and I would have like some user adjustable tone settings rather than presets.
Still, this is mainly a music player and that it does very well. A little loss in quality is noticeable to my ears, but this isn't meant to be hi-fi. Having a huge collection of music on a small device like this is great. It keeps everything to hand rather than having to look under the sofa for that lost album.
Nowadays a lot of cars have an Ipod connection fitted so these things are useful to many people. It's a bit of a shame you have to also need a computer and have to store everything on your harddrive. It'd be nice if things could be stored elsewhere or independant of a computer, but for now this is as good as it gets.

Apple Ipod 160gb

Created: 25/01/11
Truly an amazing piece of kit. This is the big boy of the ipods,a whopping 160gb.
I suppose i am luck to hold over 500gb of itunes material so i have enough to fill one of these however i always keep a little spare as i also use it as an external hard drive and let my friends take off what they want from it,so excellent to keep other information on also.It has a fantastic battery life,is very user friendly and the last time i went on holiday it came in handy for my kids as i had some disney films on and because the weather was bad it kept them happy as with the correct lead you can watch your films through any tv.These have always been a good buy as even a couple of years down the line you may still get your money back if you find you have no need for it.I cannot do without mine,i practically fall asleep every night with it on,far better than any book, what with games on it,films, music, podcasts there is so much it can do.If you get the chance get one of these and you will never look back. There is 6 of us in the family and we all have one and the house is so quiet sometimes (fantastic ) 10/10 from me.

Great product for large stroage

Created: 29/12/10
While I like the new generations of touch what i needed was volume to be able to store a lot of my library. This unit delivers that. Apples intuitive software makes it easy to setup and simple to use. The screen is a little small for watching videos in my opinion though.

Where this unit excels though is the volume of songs that can be stored in it. With 160GB its going to be difficult to completely fill and listen to even if your off travelling and are listening every day to it.

I would say a slightly better amplifier in it to power better headphones then the sandard apple ones would have been appreciated but can easily be bolted on. Overall great prodcut, simple to use and a good continuation of the apple range.

Flocking to iPod

Created: 09/10/09
I am a sheep. Baaah. I've used other mp3 players and although I disdain mainstream... the world of mp3 players revolves around the iPod. The size is a respectful 160GB and it is simple to use. Most fun accesories seem to pander to the iPod. I paid too much and expect to be angry if it is not a flawless piece of tech... as it is the industry standard. If you want a safe mp3 player that a grandmother can figure out... it's the player for you. I will still see about running the player using MediaMonkey opposed to iTunes... I loathe iTunes.
