Many reviewers are a bit miffed that Apple have played around somewhat with the classic's capacity but I have bought one only having owned an 8 gig Nano. I wanted the extra space for films & audiobooks and although I really like the iPod Touch it just doesn't have enough space. I want something I can load up with all my favourite tunes, programmes & films + a load of audiobooks to take on holiday. This does the job really well. The capacity is very good and means I dont have to keep swapping items around or decide what I want to take. The screen cannot compete with the touch but it is way bigger than the nano & works well enough although I use a dock to put it through the telly on holiday. The picture is far better than I expected and the sound clear. Everyone knows how well i-Tunes works and the addition of genius, while not vital, is a nice touch. So heres a list of pro's & con's.
For: That huge memory capacity, I got the black finish & it looks lovely,(you can get a personal message inscribed for free but you have to order through Apple for that), rapid response, intuitive controls & layout, a doddle to load, substantial feel/build especially compared to the nano & other makes, lots of accessories, great fun & capable of storing hours of entertainment for when you're away from home.
Against: Can be a little noisy, Films are battery hungry, iTunes charge an arm & a leg for just about everything,(yeah I know that's a bit random but I thought I'd have a whinge anyway), if you don't need the memory save up your shekels & get an iPod Touch, Fairly heavy, dump the headphones coz they're tat & buy some Sennheisers instead.
All in all I love this item & recommend it totally. Have fun!

its an 80GB ipod. It plays music, videos and digital photos. Comes with head phones, a syc cable and comes in small unobtrusive packaging. You can even put it in a transmitter dock in your car and play your music thru your old shagged out standard ford car radio and it sounds the dogs nuts. Your car won't be full up with tapes and CD's kicking about on the passenger foot well with all of the empty water bottles, tesco receipts, the half empty can of de-icer, the window shammy, old pay and display tickets and plastic sandwich wrappers. Sweet. So, what else do you need to know? Everyone knows what an ipod does, unless you are from the other side of the universe or have have lived in total isolation from the rest of humanity for the last 10 years.

If your looking for a ipodthat can deliver all your needs then this is the one.I buy and sell ipods as a hobby as well as repair them. For most people 80gb is all you will ever need. They are very robust and have an excellent sound and vision playback quality. They are volume capped so as not to damage your ears but you can get the older 5th gen ones if it,s a louder sound you need.We all have them in our house and are excellent for putting your films on and watching them through your tv.Small and compact, ideal for the long journeys and excellent to use on holiday to totally block out the world and drown yourself in music. They still hold thier price ipods dont really come down very fast in price but you wont regret forking out for one of these.Well recommend you getting one for all round entertainment.

It has as sleak new silver casing, and with its updated features makes it easy and enjoyable to use. Its worth the money buying a newer ipod, this is my 6th ipod and only one is still working. i have sold the rest and decided to go a bit more and buy a 80 gb. This ipod is great. I cant fault it and it was worth going a bit more to get it.

I've always bought apple products and had actually fallen in love with my iPod touch. However the classic just seems more useful to me nowadays as my music collection is rapidly increasing. One of the reasons I love the iPod Classic is because of it's huge storage capacity. I could have opted for 160GB or maybe even 120GB. But that just seems ridiculously 'BIG'. 80GB is well enough for me and my ever growing iTunes Music list. I am downloading new songs on a daily basis and the storage only ever seems to decrease slightly. I also like the design and style. The classic click wheel was one of the things I missed the most during my period of using the Touch.
I don't know if they're making anymore Generations after the 7th Generation. But if they do I will gladly purchase one.
