Good product for those that aren't going to carry it in their pockets.
| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
This old fashioned but effective MP3 player is everything I need to use it with my car radio. Is big in size but as well in capacity and as far as it's going to be used in the car I don't mind the size.
The battery performs quite well despite it's age. It runs 8.5h in continue play and about 1h45m if you keep the hard disk active.
The HD has SMART technology witch should mask a big bunch of bad sectors. Unfortunately my unit show up a couple of pending sector that even checking/formatting the whole HD are not reallocated automatically, even when it has only 108 reallocs. Because of this few 108 reallocs I don't worry too much about the 2 bad sectors that it's unable to mask. I hope the inevitable new bad sectors can be easily mask by SMART technology and make them a drop in the 20Gb of space.
The external aspect is almost perfect and better than I expected. It has a good sound quality, easy use controls, dock station and remote socket. I only miss an USB cable adapter, but nothing you can mend with a new&cheap transaction.
In overall is a good product for those who aren't going to carry it in their pockets and need a huge capacity for their MP3 files. If you have an adaptor (4th gen. in my case) on your car radio you can skip easily songs with you car steering wheel controls.
Good old Ipod because all things you can find around
Finally, I had a new old Ipod Clickwheel for replace the other second hand Ipod I had before and that was broken. This one is second hand too, a little ugly in the outside but I just changed the faceplate for the one I had and that was almost new. I still used the old hard disk, putting it in a new enclosure. So, I had a small portable hard disk for less than 10€. I like old Ipods because these models still have a decent Sound Quality, better than newest models. It's not as good quality as a Cowon, Iriver or Sansa, but decent. And you can install Rockbox there to have a decent firmaware, free from Itunes and navigating across your folders and using a true equalizer. By other hand you can find very cheap accessories, I found a Griffin Remote for just 2€ today, so the old Ipod has many advantages, still good sound, good developing of Rockbox or Linux and not very expensive, around 40€. Very nice for the price at all. And you can find lots of accessories and spares at eBay. So, it's worth the money much more than new models or the other mp3 players, only Sansa Clip is good enough to have similar value.
