Many people seem to have a very polarised bias either for or against this console. I can see why people love it and at the same time I can see why others hate it.
The first thing I have to say is that if you are looking for a console with an extremely large libary of games then you are in the wrong place. However the system does have some gems laying dormant in its libary. Prime example would be Temptest 2000 which has abit of a cult status within the Jaguar gaming community. Not to forget some excellent ports of games such as Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. One game I have found to be a personal favourite is The Attack of The Mutant Pengiuns.
The next complaint is normally about the bulky controller. I personally have very little problem with the controller and in fact find it's quite comfortable to hold, however the D-pad is not the greatest d-pad in controller history and can be very clunky for lack of a better word.
The next complain to address would be the lack of a dust sheild over the cartridge port. This is an issue that is easierly solved by leaving a game in your system but it's a case of bad console design. Equally at the back of the console there are exposed connector ports for your AV hook ups that allow dust to find its way into the console.
Due to the acclaimed 'rarity' of this system it is hard to find it at a resonsible price due to the fact that many sellers on Ebay are 'Re-Sellers' and tend to our price the console- grossly. I'd recommend taking your time as there are deals out there. When I purchased mine I got the console, a controller, RF cable and 6 games (2 boxed) for around £55. The console isn't as obscure as many will lead you to believe and you shouldn't pay much more than £60 for anything less.
The great thing about this console is that it is region free so you can shop internationally if your home sellers are asking for a steap price
There is a CD attachment for this console which is hard to come by and many are faulty so please be aware of this.
If you're a collector or just looking for something interesting to play games on then I reccomend the Atari Jaguar

This console in my personal collection because one game, which was "Alien vs Predator". It still stands up to the many iterations that have been released since. "Alien vs Predator" was the Jaguar's most successful title, and titles such as Tempest 2000, Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D were other games that earned respect by gamers. But with countless bad game releases and with the release of the Sega Genesis, Super NES, & Sony Playstation, this system was doomed from the start and had no chance to succeed in the console market. Even though the Atari Jaguar is not the crown jewel of Atari's console history (that is held by the 2600), it is a valiant try to reenter the console market and if you have a chance to obtain one, get it, especially for the games mentioned earlier.

The Atari Jaguar is not a bad machine, as some people want you to think. The Jaguar is quite powerful, it is 64 bit and the cpu is 26 mhz, that is very much when it was released in 1993. I know that the game libary is not big, but there are some cool games for it, there is fight for life, and of course Avp and Super Burnout. The grafich and sounds are very good in some games, sure there are some games there could have been done on a 16 bit console, but some games are just stunning to look at like super burnout and Avp. Also Doom and Wolfenstein 3d is some of the best versions i have tried on a console. I think its quite a power horse with some cool games for it. and its region free so you can play games from every where in the world :-)
Games to try
Super burnout
Fight for life
Avp
Doom
Wolfenstein 3d
Flashback
Iron soldier
Tempest 2000
Missile command 3d
Pinball fantasies
