Avatar, Avastar!

Avatar deserves the title of most successful movie ever. All the hype and fanfare certainly helped but even without it, the movie stands on its own as a work of innovation and above all, fun. The Director actually invented the cameras and some of the technology used to create this film. If that isn't worthy of a pat on the back, then I don't know what is. Okay, let's break it down:
Story - the story is NOT an intricate tapestry of plots, sub-plots and suspense orchestrated by intensely complex and flawed characters whose ambiguous agendas reinforce yet clash with each other beneath an umbrella of impending doom.
The story IS a roller-coaster ride into a brilliantly realised alien world in the shoes of a warrior from the 'Jarhead Clan'. The story serves its purpose of introducing the many colourful characters, showing you around that world and throwing you headlong into some of the most thrilling and exhilarating action scenes you will ever see.
Visuals - the visuals are world class excellence. Have you heard of the 'uncanny valley'? This is the weird feeling humans experience when watching realistic CGI characters who are almost real but not quite there. The brain tells you that you are looking at something weird even though the actual CGI may be almost faultless. (eg. Dead eyes) That problem has been ELIMINATED in this movie because I have not heard of anyone feeling that way when watching Avatar. Those blue Pandorans are the most real CG characters I've ever seen. Photo real.
Is the movie perfect? Of course not, it has some flaws. Originality of story is one. There must be more but I must have missed them. I was too busy having fun! You can find other reviews to list the flaws for you. This movie was all about fun for me.

Truely breath taking film - amazing in all aspects

Over 2.5 hours of amazing cinema. I was gripped from the beginning, the colours are vibrant and bright.
The plot in a nutshell - earthlings are mining by force an alien planet that is inhabited by tribal locals (the big blue people). To interact with the locals "avatars" are created by mixing human genes with alien genes to make a hybrid that can be controlled by a human via a control pod (humans cant brethe the alien atmosphere to explore themselves). Basically they want to clear out the local aliens to mine for metals. A crippled marine takes control of an avatar originally intended for his twin brother and gains a new lease of live interacting with the locals in his new alien avatar body. I wont spoil the story for you! In the end he sides with the aliens over the human army forcing them out.
An amazing storey with amazing effects. One of the best films i have seen for a very long time, the special effects and the action is great. Lots of films along similar lines have been released lately for example: Surrogates (humans controlling robots of themselves remotely) and Battle for Terra (animated but similar story to Avatar). Avatar is well worth watching and will no doubt be an instant classic.
Make sure you buy an officially released DVD - some on eBay are pirate copies of a dvd screener that was released for the Oscars. Dont waste your time buying pirated copies!! Report then to eBay.

This is the best film i have seen for a long, long time. There is that many films being made these days that most of them have ideas taken from other films.Often i can see storylines taken from a few films in the one film but the Avatar was in a class of its own.I thought the Avatars were amazing and it is quite a genious mind that can make something like that up.The special affects were amazing as well, you could imagine yourself being there with them,in fact you could almost think it was a tribe from deep in the Amazon that the world dosn't know about{well thats the way my mind works anyway}.The scene where Jake first links with his Avatar is so funny and i would have liked to have seen more of them in the film.Normally i dont watch special effects in films i buy as i always think it wastes the film, but i would love to have seen how they made the Avatars.I cant wait for the next one to come out.I would definately give this film the highest rating of all,an absolute must see!!

Avatar is unequivocally, completely, 100% the film that has been percolating in James Cameron’s head for the last fourteen years. It is not, in all probability, the film that you had in yours when you first heard that the man who directed Aliens and The Terminator was returning to sci-fi with a movie so ambitious that he had to build the technology to make it happen. If you can let go of your version and embrace Cameron’s – if you’re not, in other words, one of those splenetic internet fanboy types who’ve apparently made their minds up about Avatar before seeing it – then Avatar is a hugely rewarding experience: rich, soulful and exciting in the way that only comes from seeing a master artist at work.
Watched on the big screen, just as good on the small screen!!

When I first saw this film at the cinema I nearly walked out after an hour - I thought it was turning into one of those "save the environment tree hugging films". I am glad I didn't because it turned out to be one of my all time favourite films. On DVD it still looks beautiful and the action is still as intense, once it gets to it. Brilliant.
Obviously not everyone will like this movie but my other favourites are Lord of the Rings and Black Hawk Down so if you like those (or other films with big intense battles) you will probably enjoy this.
