Barbie - The Island Princess (DVD)

Skilfully animated - quality throughout. Dazzling effects with a clever thought out story line set to great music. A story of good values and 'good wins out in the end', where genuine love reunites and in that way inspires hope against the misfortunes and evils of the world. in its simple and young narrative the story unfolds into a fresh, charming and heart-warming tale. The baddies are suitably evil enough to suit the newer tougher generation of kids. Since i have watched all the barbie princess dvd collection with my daughter we were so dazzled by there general charms and dancing sequenses that we have now booked tickets at The Grand theatre Leeds to see The National London Ballet Company perform - SWAN LAKE. Watch out for the Ballet documentaries in the more fun features section of the dvd, very good and dance inspiring. 10 / 10 for overall; enjoyability, quality, values, story line. watched again and again. Recomended - all the Barbie Princess Collection.
AND especially Barbie's Princess and the Pauper for beautiful singing duets, quality lyrics, lovely musical melodies that stick in the mind. Watch out for the comical outtakes at the end of the movie.

While the animation in Barbie as the Island Princess looks a little bit computerized and is not of the highest quality, the movie is fabulously colorful and the animals are adorable. A beautiful tropical island and an enchanting castle create the perfect settings for a movie geared toward little girls, and beautiful princesses in ball gowns add to the royal excitement. Beyond the animation, the music is surprisingly good, and for girls in the targeted age group, the story is captivating. In other words. little girls will adore this movie.

In the story, Barbie plays the part of the adventurous and kind animal-loving Princess Rosella. Rosella exemplifies qualities such as kindness, honesty, and selflessness. The other beautiful princess in the film, Princess , is also kind and chooses to be honest. Her mother, however, is quite the opposite and in one scene commands her daughter to go and make herself prettier.

As is to be expected in a Barbie movie, there is a heavy emphasis on beauty and wardrobe, but the movie creators have tried to temper this emphasis with an even stronger focus on positive character traits. Additionally, while the movie is a a typical fairy tale love story, the prince clearly chooses his bride-to-be based on her character and the things they have in common.

Well my little one and I had a real surprise when this DVD was played for the first time. She had received it as a Christmas present from her Grandad and was thrilled to get it so wanted to watch it immediately. We did and got such a surprise when we discovered it was a musical.

I was not so thrilled by the prospect but my daughter was. She loved the free sheet with the song lyrics on and we had to open it and sing a long - our own karaoke!! One to miss I am sure!! According to my little one it is her favourite DVD because she likes singing along to the songs and I can vouch for her accuracy. If anything, Barbie certainly does teach them to have determination and perserverance. Not such a bad thing I suppose but my eardrums and nervous system beg to differ. I suspect when the songs change in the not too distant future I may well be hankering for these songs and the innocence that goes with them.

Buy the DVD and enjoy the same magical times with your child or children!!

My daughter originally hired this DVD from the library, but as she loved it so much I decided to look on ebay and see if I could buy it. To her delight it turned up on the doorstep a few days later and it was definitely money well spent. I think i paid about £6 for it. She has watched it over and over again. From an adults point of view it's ok! The store line is ok and songs are ok too. The animation is suprisingly good and there are very good extras on the dvd too.
All in all I am pleased with my purchase and I am now thinking of purchasing another Barbie film for our holiday to France in a couple of weeks.

I LOVE THE MUSICAL WAY IT TELLS THE STORY OF AN ISLAND PRINCESS THA TALKS TO THE ANIMALS. WITH THE USUAL BADDIE AND GOOD WINNING OVER EVIL ENHANCES THE STORY INSTEAD OF MAKIG IT PREDICTABLE SOMEHOW.
