Blackberry Torch 9800
Created: 30/12/10
I've owned this phone now for two days and in that time have gone through all the features in some depth. I had bought a blackberry not long ago however the long menus and options quickly put me off the idea of a business phone. After 6 months of owning a 'standard phone' that covered the basics I missed not having the internet/ emails etc and began the hunt for a new phone. Instantly the Iphone 4 jumped to the number one spot and I very nearly bought one, thanks to a 20 min youtube video 'iphone4 V Blackberry Torch' I'm glad I didn't.
The Torch cost HALF of the iphone 4 with all the same features and more, I require heavy access to emails and my boss owns an iphone 4 and his email system is very slow and hardly anything loads up in the way of attachments/pictures. The blackberry runs a mockery over the iphone in this respect as the brand stands tall in business capabilities.
Social networking is also important to me and the blackberry comes preloaded with a whole host of applications such as facebook and twitter built purely for the phone. The responsiveness of the touchscreen matches the iphones easily along with the added advantage of a trackpad acting as a mouse. The Torch will constantly update all the social networks you are logged into however, unlike the iphone, it will not interrupt your work with annoying pop up boxes you CANNOT dismiss.
Text messaging it just as strong on the blackberry as it is the iphone- each person you text has a conversation of previous texts ready loaded. Where the Torch shines above the iphone is that you have the option of a virtual landscape/portrait keyboard or blackberrys good old slide out qwerty keyboard. I must admit I do enjoy being able to choose between the 3 options of keyboard, I prefer the slide out keyboard as the screen is not disturbed or squashed.
Going through the internet on the Blackberry I have to say is not as good as the iphone 4. The iphone goes through webpages with such ease, zooming in and out, flowing through pages whereas the Torch struggles a little- appearing almost clunky in its movements. The iphones screen resolution also helps alot as everything remains crisp and clear as you slide through the webpages. Although the Blackberry does not have the same high res screen I have to say its pretty darn good in comparison to previous blackberry phones.
The cameras on both phones are 5MP which is average in smartphone world, both are a little slow and struggle in low light however in the daytime the both produce surprising photos.
Only owning the phone for two days and having to test it to this limit you can imagine I was on it alot! One full charge lasted me a day, a day of complete internet browsing emails, instant messaging everything! Today I held back a little and I still have 75% battery which appears far superior to the iphone (which I'm told lasts 6-9 hours on full usage and 2-3 days on medium usage).
Overall so far I'm extremely impressed with the blackberry but would advise anyone buying a smartphone to get the unlimited internet pack,in my case the BB bolt on pack, without you will struggle. The Blackberry handles work far better than the iphone whereas the iphone runs stronger in play mode. Depending on what you specifically require a phone for I would work on that rule but I'm definitely not complain about the Torch at ALL
