Canon EF 80-200 f4.5-5.6 zoom lens

This is one of Canon's budget lenses, and has the less robust "plastic" lens mount and only 5 aperture blades. That said, it does a cracking job of being versatile, lightweight, fast focussing and value for money. Sure, there are better lenses - and yes, you pay for that, but for around £65.00 second hand, you get a good workhorse that still produces A3+ prints of more than acceptable quality.
The 52mm filter size is a bit of an issue, as all my filters are 67 or bigger, but at least at that size, they are CHEAP.
There is no Image Stabilisation on these lenses, they are so light it's unlikely you'll ever need it anyway.
This is a pocket-sized lens that you can afford to throw around a bit, unlike some of Canon's L series IS lenses
I bought one recently for £50.00 S/H and took it to RAF Waddington's air show 2008, as my 70-300 was being serviced.
The Vulcan pics are so good, I sold them to friends, enthusiasts and two magazines.
In fact, my earnings from this lens have already outstripped the purchase price. It will be given to my son when the 70-300 comes back, but until then -I'll keep on using it, thanks.

Canon EF 80-200mm Lens.

This lens was offered for sale along with a 38-76 mm lens. I got them both at a bargain price. They are both at the lower end price bracket and are limited in their functions although they give good photographic results. Being mounted on a digital camera alters their focul length dramatically. Everything is altered by a factor of 1.6x. The lens acts like a 105-320mm lens on a film camera. As I said it still produces good results but it does need more light or a higher iso camera setting. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. Mick Lee.

Good if you have no money

I bought this lens for <£30 to fill the gap whilst waiting for a 70-200mm F4L to arrive.
It is optically sub-par, and mechanically awful. The barrel extends and rotates during focussing, if you want to manually focus then you're having a laugh as you have to twist the lens barrel. and the whole thing is made of plastic.
For the price I paid its probably worth the money, and I dont want to compare the optics to my L lens (literally 20x as expensive) as that's comparing apples and oranges.
Saying that, it is light (great for anyone who isn't up to the task of lugging round a metal lens) and it has a small 52mm filter thread for cheap filters (watch out for the rotating front element).
Final verdict: Buy if you're on a budget or you want a disposable lens to take on an adventure.

better than normal lens with a great zoom distance and fantastic soft focus for portraiture shots! it is fairly heavy due to the good build quality of canon lenses.
