    Best compact camera for £200

A great advanced compact digital camera with long zoom. It offers lots of manual controls such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed and manual focus. But it also offers lots of automatic modes for newbs. Add a large 14x optical zoom to the mix and you have one of the best digital camera at £200 price point.

Image and video quality are as good as they get with compacts and you will not be disappointed.

I bought this camera after my aged PowerShot G3 had an abrupt encounter with the floor, and so far (a week of usage) I'm delighted with it.

Auto Scene select is intelligent and manages to catch my fast-moving children with ease. Movies are superb, shooting in full HD with stereo sound. The 14x zoom means pictures can be close up and intimate whereas previously they had to be cropped and lose detail.

I'm not a camera buff so don't know how this compares to other cameras in the range, though I'm pretty confident that picking up an ex-display model for £130 inc P&P was an absolute bargain. The only real operational niggle so far is that the pop-up flash pops up automatically when you turn the camera on, and it pops up where your left index finger is inevitably holding the camera - which I think can't be good for the motor that's trying to push the flash up, and automatically means you're then in no-flash mode. Apart from that though - brilliant all round.

Tremendous camera, with some great features (colour focus, fish eye, slow motion video recording; is amazing but lower quality as to be expected from such a small camera)

Optical zoom is great quality for stills, and ability to zoom during HD video is very nice. Takes a bit of getting used to, but EASY mode is great for the impatient beginner who doesn't wish to read an instruction manual from front to back.

Great travel camera, with fantastic zoom & display. Pictures are good, but if you really want some spectacular shoots, it will definitely take some time to do it. The proper shooting mode is hard to find, so I usually go manual to get the best of it. The sensor (CMOS) is very good, the image processing is good... sometimes might need some post processing.
But that's really understandable for this price, so for a pocket size camera, I think it's excellent.

Amazing little camera. Performance in low light is excellent, noticeably better than my partner's Panasonic equivalent. Good zoom range. Haven't tried many of the effects yet. Very easy to get a good photo. I guess that for most people there's no point in lugging a heavy SLR and accessories around when there are compacts like this available.
If I had to find fault, I'd say that it seems a little flimsy, particularly the lens cover and the hatch for the computer leads. Also having the flash popping up every time the camera is switched on seems like a bad design, but it's not a major problem.
