Nowhere near as entertaining as LWR
Created: 27/07/10
Spoiler Warning!
Saw the two trips made with Ewan Mac before this - both have more entertainment value than this. Charley was a bit naive to agree to do this way before he'd any true inkling of what it was actually like, and his effort although brave enough wasn't really too realistic. No surprise that it was toughguy Simon who made it through to Dakar, having been hardened by several previous finishes.
Their support vehicle seemed very inadequate - its undercarriage busted, and Russ hadn't allowed the full spares complement to be retained aboard - so had to resort to satellite telephone to fly the bits out from Blighty. Silly, silly, silly.
Dakar really is a *very* difficult undertaking - one guy was killed on this particular one - and an Englishwoman finished too, what a testament to her athleticism and staying power - most of the men didn't make it through.
Through all these biking adventures Olly Boorman has been a smiling gentle supporting wifely presence - I think she's just perfect... We Want More Olly!

Race to Dakar

Superb DVD series, made between the long way down and round titles.
Made once again by Big Earth Russ Malkins production company, a great honest documantary following charley and the team from conception through training and onto the race.
Shows not only the trials and tribulations but the day to day life of the team, a complete other side to the normal footage seen on the sports channels.
A must for fans of Charleys adventures, bike fans, and virtually any motorsport fan.
10 out of 10.

Second hand review

I actually bought this for my brother as a present. We've both recently started riding motorbikes and this is partly due to the two series Long Way down and long way round.
I bought this DVD for him and he's reported back that it's really really good. I think he actually watched the whole thing in one sitting.
The budget was obviously lower than on Long way Round but if anything he said it was more enjoyable to watch.

Charley on form again. Great to see the race prep and the dakar, although his race was short lived. I have also bought Long Way Round/Down so decided to buy this as well.

i bought this after watching long way down and long way round, this is the middle story when charley (quiet stupidly) agreed to do the dakar rally on a bike................... see the build up and all the grueling challenges of the rally same crew as long way round and just as informative.. makes you wanna just do it.
if you liked ewan and charley's exploits this is compulsive viewing
I reccomend
