Crucial RAM memory upgrade for desktop PC.

Created: 20/11/09
Adding some extra RAM to your PC or laptop is a fantastic and economical way to increase performance and speed. My in-laws have had problems with their PC running Vista home basic for several months. Everytime they tried to open a couple of applications at the same time or even just browse the web the computer would freeze for up to 3 or 4 minutes at a time. And when it wasn't frozen it was soooo slow! It could take up to 7 minutes to boot and 2 or 3 minutes just to launch an internet browser like firefox or IE8. I tried installing several programs on there to clean up the junk files and all the other crap clogging up the hard drive. Everything I did just seemed to do nothing or even make it worse. Finally I realized that the computer only had 512mb memory installed. Fine for a brand new PC but 2 years down the line with dozens of extra programs installed it is nowhere near enough. Especially with RAM hogging Vista installed. So I removed the 512mb chip and installed two 1GB chips. What a difference it makes!!! Straight away it booted mega fast and was up and running in a minute flat. I could open a web browser, an application, a game, and run a security scan all at the same time without the computer missing a beat. Unheard of before the upgrade. Upgrading your RAM is a fantastic and economical way to give your computer a new lease of life and to speed things up considerably. Crucial is a fantastic manufacturer and you only have to google the name to find there website. They have a scanner which you can download and afater it is run it will tell you what kind of memory you need and how much you can use. And it will bring up a page of all the memory chips they have that are compatible. Once you know what memory you need you can come back to eBay like I did and hopefully find it even cheaper than the usual retail price. I really cannot recommend a memory upgrade enough to anyone running a very slow computer or suffering constant freezes. My in-laws were ready to throw the PC in a skip and now that I have upgraded the memory they are as happy as if I had just bought them a new PC for X-mas. Very easy to install as well. There are several videos on youtube showing you exactly how to do it. All you need is 5 minutes and a screwdriver to take the side panel off. Really, really easy. Even a chimp could do. Something I proved when I did it! ha. Make sure you shop around for the actual chip tho once you know what type of memory you want. prices can vary by as much as £20 to £30 for the exact same chip from website to website. If you are not as lucky as me to get them real cheap here on eBay then Crucial.co.uk are very good as is Ballicom.co.uk.
Thanks for reading this and happy computing!!!

I always buy Crucial modules for my PC upgrades because I have found the Product is always reliable and The Crucial customer service and help lines are in my opinion second to none. These particular modules fit a wide range of modern PCs, and it may be of interest that the CT12864AA667 (single 1gb card part number) is identical to the CT449466, One number being the Crucial number the other being the manufacturers (external) number. You would normally install these cards in pairs. A pair being say two 1gb cards from a production batch both meeting a given criterea of tolerances regarding their operating speeds. This can vary conciderably between cards from any production run, hence the term "matched pair".Most of my systems are Dell P4 D. orR Dual core Optiplex Sff Desk tops, and Dell PCs tend to be very choosy about the memory cards they will accept. Again the Crucial memory cards have never been rejected by any of my systems. It is worth mentioning that these cards ordered direct from Crucial cost £25.19 a pair with free postage to UK and Europaen destinations and carry a lifetime guarantee. So you need to pay less than 1/2 new price if you are buying second hand and risking unmatched and incompatable memory. As to other brands of memory. Yes I have bought several other brands in the past, some ok and some an expensive mistake. None that I have found measures up to the Crucial product for reliability and price.

Memories Are Made Of This

An excellent mid price ranged DDR2 ram that gets the job done with low Cas latency of 5.This memory is good for getting your new Vista system off the ground or just using for all those labour intensive programs such as design programs and gaming.Add 2 of these to make a 2 gig system and you will see definate speed increases in all you do.Value for money and reliable ram from a trusted leader in the Computer Memory Industry. What more can be said except buy it and see for yourself

Bargain RAM and worth it

Created: 09/07/08
the main reason i bought this RAM wasn't so much to speed up my pc but to give me the minimum spec needed to play some recently released games, although it has drastically increased the speed of my pc even whilst having A LOT of programs open. There isn't really anything i dislike about this ram, the only thing could be having to install it as my pc has wires everywhere but that was the only hassle really :)
overall this RAM is amazing for the money it was and a must buy for anybody needing a faster pc

different size than others

I have just using it and it did improved the speed of the computer and I am happy with it. This ddr2 is very slim and it is very usefull because it does not take too much space in the pc where there are allot caples in already. I have not seen this shape of ram before. The performance is seems to be very good.
