Description
With a good quality source, the Cyrus Audio 8VS2 can paint a truly three dimensional, acoustic picture, with stunningly focused staging of acoustic images. The Cyrus integrated amplifier gives a precise sense of timing and rhythm, through a finely balanced circuitry that makes the components provide their best. The 8VS2 integrated amplifier delivers a true 70 W plus 70 W RMS power into 8 ohms, and the chassis also houses a traditionally designed power supply featuring an oversize 330 VA power transformer and extra-large electrolytic reservoir capacitors. Dual charge pumps and linear post-regulators of the Cyrus Audio 8VS2 increase the voltage and stabilise the power supply available for the voltage amplifier stage. The extra headroom that this provides enhances the Cyrus integrated amplifier further, giving a full 70W 8 ohm performance. The 8VS2 integrated amplifier features the ultra-smooth, battery-like DC power of the PSX-R applied directly and only to the pre-amplifier stage through a solid-state switch. A high capacity linear power supply built from quality components, with linear regulation for the sensitive pre-amplifier circuitry, allows the Cyrus Audio 8VS2 to achieve a new level in sonic and technical performance.

Cyrus 8vs2 is keeping me awake

Created: 26/03/11
This amplifier is part of a rebuild of my hi-fi that has got me listening to music into the small hours.

I'd previously been listening to a well-regarded budget amp. At first I wondered if I could really detect a difference, but it soon became apparent that I was hearing a lot more detail than I had before.

My listening tastes vary: Hubbard, Dolphy, Coltrane, Britten, Bach, Lully, Strauss, Eric Badu, Jill Scott and lots besides from large scale orchestral to close-up acoustic duets.

Music hangs together better since I've been listening to the Cyrus. I notice that on the one hand I can hear different elements more clearly, there is separation between instruments, and better clarity, but also that everything remains coherent, part of an ensemble.

Listening is more comfortable at higher volumes as well. With a sweet spot about one-third the way round the volume dial, there is more than enough juice for my needs in this amp.

It suits me perfectly too that this unit is very compact, with a footprint that is roughly A4-sized.

My source is a Logitech Duet streaming flac files from a server, and I'm listening through a pair of Kef IQ5SE speakers. The setup (helped, in my opinion, by some investment in connectors and speaker cables) has calmed speakers which can be a bit bright in places, and overall I'm very happy.

Cyrus 8vs2 Amplifier

Created: 05/02/11
Having owned a Cyrus 1 for the last 20 years I felt compelled to move up the ladder as and when funds allowed. My recent purchase of the Cyrus 8vs2-although now a few years old, has confirmed my commitment to stay with this British manufacturer. The limiting factor is the speakers I currently use, 780 Missions, great with the 1, now a tad tight for this amp. Thoroughly recommended.
