Dell UltraSharp U2711 27" Widescreen IPS LCD Monitor

Picture quality is great, resolution is fantastic also, gives a very large workspace, great not only for gaming but also multitasking too. IPS has great viewing angle, however a few criticisms:
Screen generates an enormous amount of heat, so much so that if you happen to be using it in a small room, it will heat the room up significantly. The back becomes so hot to the point it becomes untouchable, so be aware of that.

Beeping menu sounds are annoying, easy to turn off though.

Colour, brightness and contrast looks very poor when first plugged in, requires a significant amount of tweaking before it looks correct, but when it does, it looks fantastic.

this monitor seems expensive compared to the dozens of cheaper alternatives available. However the difference in screen quality between the H/IPS technology and TN of almost all the others is immediately apparent, especially in the better viewing angles. The exceptional high resolution available, plus a myriad of connection options, superb colour gamut and adjustability all add up to a great package.

The Dell 27" monitor has proved to be an excellent high resolution option compared against alternatives including the equivalent 27" Apple Mac Monitor. We already have the Dell 24" Monitor connected to an Apple Mac Mini computer. With the addition of the Dell 27" high resolution monitor and a suitable high resolution cable we are also able to link and use both monitors for photography with the Apple Mac Aperture software. (The Apple Mac cable required appears to be a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable)

The monitor is great. Picture quality is excellent and the features/conectivity/touch buttons are smart and well buit.
The only downside is that the antiglare coating is slightly distorting the image. When you compare it with the antiglare screen of a Macbook (you can get the antiglair option from the Apple Store for extra bucks), the Apple one is a bit more reflective but much smoother.
On the Dell side, the dead pixel policy is not good.

Pro quality monitor, very good colour.
Out of the box its far to bright, set to about 20% brightness 50% contrast using sRGB, this will give you a quick intro to its abilities, obviously like any monitor it will need setting up to your personal preferences, but its close to perfect for me on the above settings.

If you don't need the quality don't pay the money, if you do, its worth every penny!
