Fujifilm FinePix S4200 14.0 MP Digital Camera - Black

I recently bought this camera second hand for £65. It is my first better camera (Than an iPhone / SE K850i). The mass amount of options on the camera are staggering. Keep in mind that this is only a "Bridge Camera". For those that don't know what that means, You have a Compact Camera, A Bridge Camera, then a SLR. So basically the one in the middle.

I would strongly recommended this camera to anyone wanting to do close up shots (It has an amazing macro mode for this) and it also is great for party's / portrait photos of people. Scenery shots are not too bad, but you have to play around with the settings to get a good effect.

Post work in Photoshop would be beneficial with this camera, but not needed.

Overall Rating 4/5. Only because it could do with some better features / settings for night shots and scenery photos. It is also a bit heavy with the 4x AA batteries in, but on a plus side, very comfortable to hold.

I bought this camera as I wanted good photos of my family and friends.
My expectation was that the camera was going to be bigger and the photos not much better than a friends compact digital camera, I was wrong the photo quality was a lot better even when zooming! the size of the camera was less than expected which is always good and the wieght is perfect for the use it is getting!
for the price it is a good starting point for producing quality photographs for the beginner photographer (my opinion, ask around because I haven't tried them all nor do I profess to be any kind of professional!!) or just someone who wants quality moments captured in a good quality.

Overall I am very happy with the prtoduct and is pretty perfect for the uses I bought it for. The price was less than expacted also so very happy with that again.

I bought a S4200 as an upgrade from my S5600 which I liked very much. I wanted to avoid a feature of an earlier Finepix which stalled the lens motor if you forgot to remove the lens cover. Unfortunately the S4200 has the same stupid feature!
The on/off switch is a slider which gives no indication whether it is on or off, you have to look in the viewfinder to tell. It seems to be heavier on batteries than the S5600.
The 24x zoom is better, and the wide angle saves having to attach an external lens. However when photographing sunsets it seems to be more prone to flare. Zooming in movie mode is an advantage.
At full zoom you need plenty of light or it will blur, even in sport mode.
Most users don't need 14Mp for viewing on a screen, unless they're gong to do serious cropping.
Overall it's good value for money but I'll keep my S5600.

Once you have worked your way through the instructions...which aren't that long...you realise just how good this camera is. An ideal camera for someone after quality pictures, with a good range of options and settings. The next step up would be a full DSLR. Very happy with it.

I really enjoyed this camera. After many years getting all I could with a compact 7.2 mp sony cyber shot, now I can make my on set up and learn on an easy way with this camera.
