Product description

Product Information
The FinePix X100 features a custom 12.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS high-performance sensor, internally optimized and developed exclusively for this model. Optimization of the angle-of-incidence in conjunction with the specially developed lens maximizes light gathering efficiency extending to the perimeter of the sensor for a sharper image with exceptional clarity. When shooting HD movies, the combination of the large-sized sensor and the large aperture F2 lens, lets users create a soft out-of-focus image - a capability not available in conventional compact cameras. The ideal combination of a fixed focal length lens, high-sensitivity sensor (approximately 10 times the sensitivity of a conventional compact) and a high-performance image processor captures extremely high quality images from low sensitivity to high sensitivity. In standard form, the planned ISO range is from 200 to 6400, but this can be expanded to include 100 and 12800.The FinePix X100 is a high precision digital compact camera that combines modern technology with a traditional camera design to deliver the ultimate in image quality. Featuring an APS-C CMOS sensor (12.3 megapixel), a FUJINON 23mm Single Focal Length Fixed F2 lens, a 2.8" LCD 460K, and the world's first Hybrid Viewfinder, the FinePix X100 captures exceptionally high quality images.

Probably best compact come future DSLR. I was looking for a small light quiet wide angle rangefinder with great lens.Low light shooting amazing better than Leica M6 and Leica X1, viewfinder better too in fact not a true rangefinder but doesn't have a prism. This is the only camera on the market that can shoot at low light with out noise.Images clearer than my Nikon D300.I've set up my X100 like my D300 and can see everything on the screen I need without going through the menu often which is not a chore as reviewed elsewhere. Bought at the amazing price of £650 yesterday so opted for 3 years warranty because there have been lens problems, shutter sticking and firmware problems, but God willing I have a well engineered camera time will tell. Buy the fastest Sandisk pro card 95mb I have you can also get a longer lasting NP-95 battery at 2600mah rather than 1800mah in the box. My only quip was dust appearing on the sensor in time mine is perfect, under my warranty I will get it cleaned free when it occurs so know problem there this occurs in Canon G cameras and Leica's too so Fuji are not alone.Images are absolutely fresh and remind me of Cartier Bresson a giant in photography with that giving me new creativity and avenues to pursue, can't wait to start selling my pics with this gem a classic and the price will stay good too if it's not the camera for you.I'm not downloading the new firmware as yet I'm happy with the X100 as it is.This is why I'm a photographer, may be complicated to a novice.

This is a great street camera but is definitely overpriced.
The fact that there are many of these cameras currently for sale only a couple of months old I think bears me out.
It is my argument that people purchase this camera and are then a little disappointed. not that there is anything wrong with the camera it takes brilliant photos however once bought I think that most people would think that they can get similar quality pictures from cameras a quarter of the price and with a zoom feature and especially now the Fuji x10 is available. Some problems have been reported with a sticking shutter make sure this is not a problem when buying second hand.
Please do not think I am dissing the camera I am not I think it is brilliant at what it does a good all-rounder but not for taking to parties and messing about on the beach unless you are really careful with it. I like the camera but would not be without my Nikon SLR with interchangeable lenses.
As I said a good street camera which is not too obtrusive but may be a little complicated for some people.

I use a Panasonic L1 and a Leica Digilux 2, both are obviously getting on a bit in years now and both produce fantastic results.
As you're reading this you will / should have already fallen in love with Fuji's retro looks and as with the above two camera's it has many of the positives for those of you who prefer the 'old style' buttons and handling.
A few reviews state that it's not that great a camera, so I took a while before splashing the cash on something with obvious limitations re lens size.
It's a fantastic camera, takes a bit getting used to for some reason (well it did for me - but only a couple days trying it out) but once I got it set up and get myself out and about, (re)learning how my legs work instead of the zoom function I've been using all these years.
Cannot find a fault with it yet, it handles temperature changes well - aircon room to Congo heat, never tried it in cold yet, but wont be long and produces constantly great results.
If you're confident you don't need a zoom lens you will not be sorry.

This superb camera lives up to all the positive reviews that have written about it in the press.

Picture quality is excellent and it excels in low light. Almost noise free up to high ISO's, crisp and with lovely bokeh at wide apertures. A good macro mode too.

The silent mode is very effective for street photography - I used it for taking shots inside a church during a wedding too and no-one was bothered at all.

The manual controls, buttons, dials etc are fantastic to use but the menus take a bit of getting used to.

It is not a camera for a beginner. It is definitely a camera for an experienced photographer who likes full manual control.

I don't know why Fuji made such a fussy filter holder/cap /hood set up but its not a deal breaker.

Build quality is substantial and you just want to keep holding it - its so tactile - I guess thats where the money goes!
