Garmin Nuvi 1490T Automotive GPS Receiver

I bought this for my 'other half' for his Birthday as he had been going on about wanting one and was no longer happy with his mobile's version of a SatNav. I researched a few of the Garmin SatNav's on the market as had been told that 'WHICH?' had said that they were currently the best make to buy. I then decided on which one had the most to offer and would best suit my partner's needs and then went on a comparison site to find out who were selling it the cheapest. As usual Ebay had the answer and I was happy to find it was nearly half the price of most retailers. When my partner started 'playing' with his new toy he was extremely happy as it had far & above all of the tools he had wanted from a SatNav including: which lane to get into at the next junction; Speed camera alerts; maximum speed alerts; different scales; use abroad in Europe when we go on holiday; bluetooth enabling you to connect your mobile to the SatNav to answer or make calls while driving safely; and many, many more. The larger screen was also a bonus. He was very happy with his present and we belive it will be extremely useful for years to come... or until he finds something else new on the market with a whole load of new 'toys' to play with!!

One of the best 5" screen models ive seen on the market for it's functions, facilities, and price range. This model has been discontinued at Halfords but it's replacement is in a higher price bracket (there's a suprise!.)Very user friendly and great screen functions which are easy enough to suss out for the most inexperienced of GPS users. My only gripe, just to be fussy, is that you don't get a protective carry case with it.

Garmin Nuvi 1490T's big screen makes it that much easier to view from its perch on a car's dashboard or windshield. With Bluetooth hands-free calling, free traffic data, and a clever, green driving suite of tools, this big fellow is not a bad choice for people looking for a good blend of advanced functionality and ease of use.

When you buy a unit you are invited to a free update within 60 days of purchase. Meaning that you have the opportunityto use up to date maps from the start. Then, for a mere £74 one off payment, you can have updates 4 times per year for the rest of the life of the machine. You will never have old maps to navigate with. Compare this with what other makers charge and this feature becomes very attractive. Position finding is very precise and the unit is so easy to use.
Dislikes: Only one. Garmin could have supplied a mains charging device for the battery. This set only has a charger for a car at this moment.
Summing Up: A really good tool whether you drive a car, walk, hike or go boating. You will not be disappointed.

Fantastic. Big clear screen, easy to use, shows you what lane to be in and also when there is trafic congestion ahead which gives you a chance to change route. Doubles up as a hands free kit which works so so well and is really clear to hear. Tells you the speed limit of the road you are travelling on and alerts you of possible mobile speed cameras and red light safety cameras not that I go through red lights. Alerts you if you are going over the speed limit. Too many features to list, but I love it, its my favourite gadget and I am not technology minded.
