Understated Comedy Classic!!
I never did get to see Gavin and Stacey on BBC3 but had seen the trailers and also heard about it, which made me really curious, as I like my comedies. Hence buying it on Ebay. From the moment I put the dvd in I knew that this was a golden nugget of comedy and now I can't wait for series 2 to be released on dvd! It is such a sweet comedy about a relationship between two people from different backgrounds and their families and friends. It is very true to life in many aspects and the comedy is not in your face, it is quite subtle, the kind that really tickles you and catches you out of the blue. This is definitely worth watching! It is a dvd I will be watching over and over again.
Best comedy series I have seen for a long time!
Brilliant Dvd, about a couple who meet and have a whirlwind romance, and get married after about eight weeks.
Gavin is from Essex, and Stacey is from Barry Island in Wales.
The welsh family are hysterical, especially Uncle Bryn!
This was so funny, I was literally in tears with laughter. I can't wait to watch series 2.

One word: FAB
I have to agree with marksteven17, this is an absolute scream of a programme. I too urged EVEERY SINGLE person i know to watch it and was in love with it so much that i even managed to find James Cordens (writer and also "smithy" in the series) fansite on the web!! I think Gavin and Stacey is one of the best comedy series that the BBC have ever produced and i cannot wait for series 2 which is due to hit screens soon! There is a lot of subtle comedy in it as well as the obvious jokes which is just my kind of thing! My fave character is without a doubt Smithy and i love gavins mum and dad too - the "vegetaria" episode had me in stitches!! The DVD has good extras too, outtakes and also a behind the scenes look at the filming and also insightful interviews with all characters. I'd give this over 5 out of 5!!

A truly wonderful cast with plenty of witty lines.
Gavin and Stacey is a sitcom written by James Corden and Ruth Jones - both of whom star in the show - for BBC Three. It follows the first meeting and subsequent relationship of Essex boy Gavin Shipman and Welsh lass Stacey West who speak regularly on the phone in their respective workplaces for 6 months before finally meeting in London. We also get to meet Stacey's best friend Nessa, a chain-smoking trucker with a colourful past and Gavin's best mate Smithy, a larger than life Essex boy. Smithy and Nessa have some of the best lines in the show - I particularly like Nessa's stories about her famous past loves and a series of unlikely former careers. Also worthy of mention is Rob Brydon as Stacey's uncle Bryn who is a fantastic and very funny character. Gavin and Stacey doesn't rely on catchphrases or deliberately wacky plot devices but lets the humour come from the meeting of these two very odd but at the same time very normal families. There is something really warm and genuine about the characters which will keep you watching to find out what happens next.
If you like Peep Show, Alan Partridge and the Office then check this out. It has the same slightly cringe worthy feel to at times, but more often gives a true and good insight to modern day life.
Best comedy for a long time !!
I loved this comedy from the first episode i watched. The comedy just keeps coming and coming. The comic genius of the character Smithy makes this sitcom even better!! You get into the story as if it,s real life too,You go through every moment with them.
The use of South Wales folk and Essex folk was brilliant and had it been just one set of people no way would it have worked. The constant banter between Nessa and Smithy is hilarious.Uncle Bryn with his obsession of all things young, trendy and modern is so funny you,ll pee yourself :)
Just every character in this series is essential,Pam and Mick(gavins parents) are fantastically funny,Even the minor roles such as welsh Dave or Stacey,s neighbour Doris are essential. There is nothing to dislike except the end of the series so far...hurry up and make a new series please!!
