Album Notes
Goo Goo Dolls: Johnny Rzeznik (vocals, guitar); Robbie Takac (vocals, bass); Mike Malinin (drums).Additional personnel: Tim Pierce (guitar, mandolin); Tommy Keene (guitar); Jamie Muhoberac, Benmont Tench (keyboards); Luis Conte (percussion); Nathan December, Rob Cavallo."Iris" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "Black Balloon" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. On first hearing, the Goo Goo Dolls sound like the Replacements' distant cousins, full of trashy rock bravado tempered by intelligent, often tender lyricism and a penchant for combining ringing acoustic guitars with dirtier sounds for a rich sonic stew. In fact, DIZZY UP THE GIRL finds the Dolls moving further away from the Replacements sound than ever before, with a definite '90s influence to the proceedings. The group's main link to the Replacements (and to Paul Westerberg's main influence, Alex Chilton) is the man-child dichotomy played out over the course of the album. The youthful, energetic spirit that makes DIZZY UP THE GIRL an exciting bit of rock & roll is matched at every step by a world-weariness that gives the jangly alt-rock tunes an air of maturity.

Goo Goo GOOD!

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Most CDs have at least one track you skip past. 'Dizzy Up the Girl' has no such track. Every single song on this album is just brilliant, without reverting to the 'make every track the same so you'll like them all' mindset that so many modern artists seem to favour.
Iris is usually the all time favourite but when you listen to this album you come to realise that it's overrated and the album consists of better songs!

What can I say, I think the Goo Goo Dolls are the best thing since sliced bread!! I actually got into them because of an episode of Charmed where Piper had them in her Club. It was only one song but I decided to get a CD from E-bay and check them out. Now I own all the CD's they have made and are going to see them live in Cambridge in October 2006.
This particular CD is my favourite, John Rznicks voice is spellbinding for me and I think it's a shame they have never had the recognition in England that they deserve.
Thinking about giving them a listen? Go on, you won't be disappointed.
P.S If you like these try Dishwalla!!

what can i say about this about this album which other reviewers havn't said already? for a start a lot of the tracks are on other goo goo dolls albums but seem to be a softer type rock on this album. everyone raves about iris which i have to admit i do enjoy listening to and bought the album to learn how to play that particular song as i already know how to play the rest of them.
on the hole if your a fan you will probably own most of the tracks on the album but if you want to get an idea what the goo goo dolls can do then buy th cd and just enjoy the music.
if you are a ronan keating fan please dont buy this album because the goo goo dolls wipe the floor with the keatings of this world!!!

I love this album it is worth buying. All the songs are great. I love the goo goo dolls but i think this is their best album. You can realate to alot of their songs. Its great to just sit back and chill out to this album. I also like the fact it has the lyrics in the cover so you can really understand what the songs are about.
