Review for: HP TouchPad 16GB, Wi-Fi, 9.7in - Glossy Black
HP Touchpad is an enigma- it could have been outstanding but had self inflicted issues. If you can forgive these you can have an adaptable workable tablet.
Firstly build quality-the frame/ base / bezel is too weak at certain stress points, near the headphone jack and speakers for example. This can result in cracks to the casing just through normal use.
Secondly the availability of apps from the HP Catalogue just can't compete with other devices.
However I can forgive these failings as the Touchpad has other virtues. You can install Android IceCream Sandwich to dual boot should you wish so the scarcity of App issue becomes redundant.
Guides to do this are on the web and is made relatively easy as HP Touchpad is Linux based.
It is also very handy for multi tasking as you can have apps as cards on the main screen, these can be single or even stacked according relevance and can be switched very easily through upward / side swiping actions reminiscent of the Playbook and Android ICS .
It has a camera for Skype and can even be connected through compatible phones to make calls and do text messages.
Because of the build quality failings and WebOS restrictions their price has reduced so that compared to iPads etc these for price are a good budget concious alternative.

Review for: HP TouchPad 16GB, Wi-Fi, 9.7in - Glossy Black
I was very happy with this item as it was looking brand new as described. It is very high quality with a nice finish, slightly heavier than most tablets which makes it feel nice to hold. It runs using a webOS not android so you can`t use Google play store which is unfortunate as my kids cant play Angry birds and other games. The best thing for this tablet would be to root and upload android operating system. However if you want it for normal PC stuff like web surfing or pictures etc its exceptionally good.

I got this for my dad for Christmas, he's had his eye on an iPad but was put off by the price. Being in the know I knew that this tablet would easily do everything he needed a tablet to do.
It's very smooth and responsive like a high end smartphone. the preinstalled apps like photos, email, chat etc have functionality that go way beyond that of an iPad because they intergrate seamlessly with Flickr, Dropbox, Google chat or anything else you'd want to sync and unlike an Android tablet these are all built in natively so you're not relying on third party apps like IM+. the way it pulls stuff from all of your online sources (HP Synergy) is truly a joy, it might not have all of the apps that the iPad has but out of the box it ties all of your services together better than anything I've seen.
The screen is incredibly good and bright, I don't know the resolution and you might see an iPad retina screen being sharper if you had the two side by side but in 99.9% of cases you won't have the two side by side. By itself there's nothing to complain about, everything looks clear and sharp to me.
This really is a great tablet, superb out of the box functionality that's lacking in some of the higher profile tablets, a great screen, webOS is so simple and intuitive that even my technophobe mum could get to grips with it immediately but that little bit extra if you want to delve into the settings and accounts to make it do a little bit more. It's very much a functional tablet where the iPad is more of a toy and Android tablets are a mish-mash of a good core but with extra bolted clunkily on.

The HP touchpad is an amazing piece of technology. I can now see why they called it a rival to the iPad.
The functionality of the device is superb and very smooth. With quick processing of applications and stable Wi-Fi, it certainly has been a bargin purchase compared to buying a iPad2.
Of course the only problem with it is that HP will not be developing the software for the device anymore, so there is limited functionality and not enough support for the OS it uses.
And there is always the small question on what is the purpose of tablet devices and why it will benefit you? If you can answer that question like I did, then this is worth every penny.
