longplay MD player good allround

Created: 10/01/09
Briefly, this is the second unit I have bought (for the mrs car) to replace the tape player. MD is just very handy, and this player can play the LP2 and LP4 discs (NOT the hiMD).

It has a 4 channel amp, but I have it connected to a power amp, however it only has a single RCA / phono output (and is linked to the REAR fader?) so I use a 2 to 4, to feed the bass and front. also controls a CD changer and displays text if available on the disc (CDTEXT) and RDS text from radio. Using a changer / splitter (eg S210A) you can have an AUX mp3 input as well as CD (appears as AUX in the sources).

Anyway, brief review of the item for the factors that were important to me when buying it. Manual is available at Kenwood support. It does need a dedicated Kenwood connector (not ISO as some other models) but can be obtained from eBay for sub 5 pounds.

MDLP in the car

Firstly i dont know if sony made a mdlp car player, this is a good alternative if they do, does what it says on the tin, minidisc is a far better idea than scratching all your cd's, what you can do with cd you can do with minidisc, minidisc is far better for portable use, the cd one in the car is on the way out, so had 3 choices, tape,cd,or minidisc, ive still got lots of minidiscs so why not, the mdlp feature was the selling point, so i can make a compilation with net md, have a jb980, when done bung it in this and away you go, you can keep all your i pods and mp3 players, hardware is always better than software.
It may sound like a review on minidisc which i suppose partly it is, so all in all you wont go far wrong with this player

Kenwood KMD-673R Car MiniDisc Player

For those looking for a car MD player capable of playing LP formats, look no further. The sound quality of this unit is excellent and its ability to switch seamlessly from different modes SP/2*LP/4*LP is great. Four or five albums on a little disc rather than a single album on a CD is great for reducing clutter in the cabin. It was also a doddle to add an Aux input lead to allow my MP3 player to plug into the system when I want to. The button backlight colour can be switched between red and green, which allows it to blend in with many internal car lighting systems. If I have one tiny gripe,it is that the blue button, which switches the unit on and off and cycles between sources, is a little too bright for my liking. As gripes go, that's really trivial. If you still need to use MD, get this.

Kenwood KMD-673R MiniDisc Player

Good quality player, a bit idiosyncratic in its use, no pause key or mute key neither a remote - unless wired in with built in telephonic interface. other than that , easy to use, changeable colour lights and very good sound. Easy to install, easily supports ipod and cartridge stack unit with optional upgrades.

Overall a very good player not excellent coz its missing a few touches, but worthy none the less
